Re: Spinoff to heat.. What is a pellet stove?
We have had our pellet stove about 4 years. It looks like a wood burning stove, they also come in fireplace insert style. Pellets are sold in 50 lb bags, the pellets look like rabbit food. The pellet stove has a hopper, a space that holds 40 or 50 lbs of pellets. That allows the stove to run for many hours, even days depending on the setting without being refilled. There is a blower that uses electric as well as an auger and ignition. It does not use any oil or natural gas. We do not use it as our only source of heat, we have oil heat as well. It does allow us to use much less oil and keep our home at a more comfortable temperature.

This may be a stupid question - but it needs to be vented into an exhaust system, right?

Oh okay. SO you would need to have the space to place a stove or fireplace. Not gunna work in our 750 sq. ft. home. But, it sounds cool. We have a woodburning stove in our family house upstate and I love it.
