Spinoff to I don't understand people....
There are so many unemployed people out there. I don't think employees get it that, yes, you get a lot of resume's but these people are sending tons of them a day and getting one phone call means a lot to them and gives them some hope.
Don't tell them you want to have them come in for an interview and say you will call back for a day and time.
Don't interview someone and not call them back when they don't get the job. Give them the courtesy to continue looking. How hard is it when you go down to 7 people, then 3, then 1 to when calling the 3 back for a 2nd interview, call the other 4 to tell them they would not be getting the position?

Seriously. They look at us like candidates, not people. My DH is not an HR person, but does some of the HR for his company and he insisted that they contact every person they interviewed with a rejection, that it was the right thing to do. I think he felt so bad because he had gone through it for a year while trying to get a job before he got this one.

I am so glad that he fought for that. They don't get that people are looking for jobs, all day, everyday. You don't know if you should keep applying and waste your time and everyone else's time.

I got burned by that a few times. I thought I had a job so I stopped looking. I ended up not getting it, but by the time I got the rejection, it had been a month and I felt like I was starting from scratch again. So now I keep looking even if I'm shortlisted. I don't trust anyone anymore.

Yep, I am right with you. One simple phone call could eliminate that.

I'm guessing they don't full out reject people and let you know in case their number 1 falls thru. If their number 1 falls thru and you already told your number 2 that they didn't get the job then they're stuck.
I don't agree with it, but I think that's what they are thinking in these situations.

No, they do reject them. I actually saw an ad back up on craigslist the next day after the guy called and had a conversation with my dh and told him he would call him back with a day and time.
