Spinoff to InShocks post about eating
If any of you have BTDT I could use some advice.....DS is 2 years old and down right refuses to eat anything new. He even refuses to eat some of the things he use to love. I find myself making the same old things day after day because I know he will eat them. I usually ask him do you want this or that, he tells me then I make it. For breakfast I am ok with that, and I am even ok with it when DH or I work late and can't do dinner together as a family, but what about when I just want to cook a family meal? How will I ever get DS to start trying new things? Is this a phase? He use to try everything I gave him!!!!!
TIA

if you or your dh are picky they pick up on that..If you want them to eat it, you eat it. Give it to them and make no facial expressions---you can even distract them with tv. It is proven it takes a child 7 times to eat something before they know they do not like it. For what its worth...all else fails what Ii wrote on the other thread worked for me and I have 4 kids. Empower them, give the bottom shelf on the fridge up-even let them choose what to put there-of course only go to healthy things. Let them graze. People are soppose to graze eat. good luck! You can even hide food... ex: they hate fish--so mix it with crushed tomatoes, seasoning bla bla and rice..they will never know! or make fun animals out of food.

Thanks.....we are not picky eaters. I eat a wide variety of things, even though I was not exposed to it as a child b/c my mom was picky and DH will eat litterally ANYTHING! I have been trying new things a little at a time, broccoli for example...I have given him broccoli about 1 -2 dozen times and he will NOT touch it. We go to the store and he gets excited...."broccie mommy, put in bag" OK great "good job, good helping Ryan" go home, helps me put it in pot, gets to his plate....."no, mommy eat!"
I read your other post earlier about the fridge, but wasn't quite sure what you meant. You mean you put what they like there and let them choose what to have for dinner? Please explain

ok...as far as the broccoli-saute in garlic and oil until soft and chop fine---saute with macaroni.
Take him shopping get him excited... buy fruit---cheese sticks---ummm if he likes turkey and cheese get that--u can do roll ups and cut it with pizza cutter. horizon vanilla organic milk-of course some snacks but nothing bad... yogurt...if he wont let u feed him freeze in popsicle molds- I even got kids protein bars and such...make a biggggggg deal.... tell him its his food and he can n get a snack whenever he wants... its only his shelf---let him go in as much as he wants... its a control issue. if he doesn't eat at dinner so be it---he ate breakfast and lunch---dinnner is sopposed to be light... or like tonight...im putting homemade soupp in a bottle. try it...they want some control. If it does not work, u have nothing to lose. It worked with all 4 of my kids... make ahead pumpkin pancakes with flax seed===let him walk around with it etc....i have tons of recipes. protein shakes... they have all the greens, and so on. we also make juice-apple carrot etc. It cannot hurt fm me if u need anything!I can even fm u recipes... never met a kid that wont eat my food!

Not like its going to relieve you of all problems but I play with my dd's kitchen with her and we make pretend kind of foods and we both go "MMMMMMMMMMM" when tasting whatever fake BS we made...LOL. She carries that into her eating habits and just about tries and eats or tries and spits out everything Good Luck!

I have tried this....didn't work, lol. He loves pasta, but only with sauce. won't touch the pasta w/broccoli and it is basically a staple in my diet. I make a big batch every week and then have it for lunch here and there.
I am going to try the shelf thing. There are plenty of options, he likes a good number of things and absolutely loves any kind of fruit he can get his hands on, but I never though to let him help himself. I can't get him to eat soup either. did you mean you are putting soup in a baby bottle? He is 2 and doesn't get bottles anymore....
Thanks for taking the time to write all this out for me and i'd love some recipes when you get around to it. Always looking for new ideas

Re: Spinoff to InShocks post about eating
My kid pretty much eats pasta...so I make sauce with veggies, cheese, give him filled pasta.
I check every day to make sure he isn't dead, once I see he is moving. I don't care what he eats, so long as he eats. He has the rest of his life to eat lots of different things, and if he turns out to be a picky eater as an adult, thats fine...I know plenty of picky eaters, its annoying, but at the end of the day...people have bigger problems in life. Just my opinion...
