Spinoff To KellyFG Thread - Are You The Kind Of Person

who are always ready to help people in need without judging them?

I am all for helping people whether or not I think they are scammers or not. The reason why I am so giving and caring is because in my mind at any time in my life me or anyone of my family members may fall on hard times and may need assistance from people. Life has its ups and downs. Today we can be up and doing well and tomorrow we may not be doing good.

I know that there are some people who walk around and scam people but I never hesitate to help because if that person who I am helping turns out to be a scammer he/she will have to live with themselves for the rest of their lives.

I def do not judge those that need help but I am very skeptical.

If someone needs help I will approach it cautiously.

Re: Spinoff To KellyFG Thread - Are You The Kind Of Person

I am always ready to help, depending on the situation. I go with my gut, and I assess a situation, I don't judge the people. Does that make sense? For example, there was that situation a few weeks ago with the woman on craigslist that people were donating clothes and stuff to for her daughter's bday, but I saw that she sold a bunch of clothing in the same exact sizes she was asking for in donations. It just didn't add up to me, so I didn't donate. I'd rather my money and extra clothing go to someone who I don't have doubt about. I don't think that's judging, that's making an informed decision to me.

The reason I try not to assume the worst is because things weren't always so easy for me. I was judged & frowned upon by people that knew nothing about me or what kind of mother/person I was because I was an unwed teenager with a child. I don't think my circumstances should be the norm, people should wait to have children. I've come a long way and I'm grateful everyday for the good in my life, happy for the people that i helped me when I needed it.

This must have been so hard on you. That is why I never judge any or make certain remarks about people because no one knows what tomorrow brings.

Re: Spinoff To KellyFG Thread - Are You The Kind Of Person

I like to help people because I hope that down the line if I need help, someone will help me.

If I see accidents, I stop
If an elderly person needs help in a store or putting packages in the car I help them
I go out of my way for people. Sometimes I get screwed but it will pay off one day.

Yes, I am always the kind to help. Maybe I have gotten scammed a few times, but I know that at least some of the time I am truly helping someone in needs. I always put it in perspective. Will it really hurt me if I give a few dollars? I hope that if I were ever in the unfortunate position to need that kind of help, that people wouldn't judge me or my family.

ITA. these type of gestures, ABSOLUTELY.

i don't necessarily judge but i AM someone that doesn't completely trust others. HOWEVER, i would be the first person to help someone in need but not necessarily financially (other than family or friends).

I try not to judge, though I know I can be very judgemental. It's a flaw, I know...

I am very skeptical of people until I see the entire situation.

I do like to help people but I don't want to be scammed.

I do help people though...

I helped a woman in Stop n' Shop once and every year I take an angel from those Salvation Army trees they have in the mall and supermarkets and I buy whatever is needed for the child in need.

Re: Spinoff To KellyFG Thread - Are You The Kind Of Person

I am the kind of person that gives money to homeless people- normally the same ones at least once a week

I have paid $5 for some one on line in front of me at the grocey store- the cashier almost dropped dead

I try to help when ever I see a situation that I can do something to help

I would have helped the person that Kelly was describing

but I do also know a person that is a live long system abuser as well

I can see both sides- and I don't lump all people together

Same here.

I hate the idea of scammers getting me---I see it too often and it bothers me. BUT I go with my gut when it comes to situations.....if I think its genuine--then I'm the first one to donate and do something.

Like the case of the LIFer who Ophelia was helping out and stuff. Some people thought it would be a scam and were warning others to be careful....but I went with my gut and felt it was genuine and donated anyway. Sometimes you gotta go with what you feel is right

Re: Spinoff To KellyFG Thread - Are You The Kind Of Person

I try to help others as much as possible.

I've paid for formula for a couple that couldn't afford it in front of me on line.
I've given $$ when I've seen people scrounging for money.
I give food to the food pantry at Church.
I've gotten out of my car and helped someone broken down or stuck.

It's a round world and I figure it's better to help than ignore.

I always try to help people.....

I ALWAYS stop at accidents, just the other day, I saw a young kid flip his car over on the other side of the road...I stopped and he was already out of the car....there were like over 20 people who also stopped to help, I loved seeing that Chat Icon

I tend to be skeptical but that is not my initial reaction, once I start thinking about it that is when I start to wonder

I would never judge homeless people and those in need unless I knew something about them personally - which has yet to happen.

I have heard people say "oh they're probably not really homeless" or "they'll just buy liquor with your money" that really upsets me Chat Icon God forbid any one of us had to walk a mile in their shoes.

last month on a 95 degree day there was a old war veteran on rt 112 (in uniform) holding up a sign that he will work for food. I seriously doubt that he was out there dripping sweat carrying that sign and didn't really have to Chat Icon

the more I think about it, IMO, people who say things like that or judge w/o knowing have to do that in order to make themselves feel less guilty about not helping.

Yup! I would also rather our tax dollars pay to support children (regardless if the parents are scammers since it's not the kids fault) than to pay for $2,000 shower curtains for politicians or million dollar bathrooms in National Parks.

Re: Spinoff To KellyFG Thread - Are You The Kind Of Person

I'm not. I'd like to say that I am, but I've become jaded.

I'm helpful to those I think are in need. In Kelly's case, I would have probably paid for the groceries. I gave someone $50. She was buying a ton of groceries to put together Thanksgiving baskets at the YMCA for familes in need. She was excited about the baskets she was putting together & using every coupon she could find. She was telling the clerk that she was upset this year because they had to switch to margarine for the rest of the baskets because the butter was too expensive.

I'm not looking to get scammed & will check out a situation before donating or helping. It's also not about just being scammed, but it's about those that constantly play the role of victim. The person in constant need of a hand-out. I can't feel sorry for someone who can't afford basic needs but springs for Starbucks. The person can't scrape by & gripes about never being able to afford a house, talks about how luck everyone else is because they have good jobs. It's not luck. It's called having a good work ethic & working your azz off.

So I wish I was, but I'm not. I'll help out anyone with photos, cards, etc for free. I'll donate to those I think are in need. But IMO good things come to those who wait - as long as they work their tail off while they're waiting.

I feel the same way.

Plus, a lot of those people that you think are "scammers" actually are people in need. No one gets rich on welfare.

Re: Spinoff To KellyFG Thread - Are You The Kind Of Person

one of the things that I love so much about my DH is that he always gives money to ANYONE that seems to need it...even if its someone you wouldn't normally give to. (for example a homeless person with beer in hand).

I used to give him a hard time about that - but he really opened my eyes to the fact that we are all human and that we are soooo lucky and blessed to have what we have. Not everyone is as lucky and we are in no position to judge others no matter what the situation.
