Spinoff to last post before delivery

What (if anything) was most troubling for you before DC was born? Here was the next to last post I made before Marron was born. Sad to say, I'm still all out of whack! And I still walk like a pregnant weeble wabble since my pelvis is still misaligned. Thanks, Marron! Just my first scar of motherhood I guess (after stretch marks of course)! Chat Icon

I finally have an answer to the cause of my excrutiating back pain. After going for physical therapy twice this week, a chiropractor, and a massage therapist, I have learned that the body produces a hormone that lets your ligaments relax to allow for childbirth. Well apparently one side of my pelvis has relaxed more than the other, causing it to shift, which is resulting in my back and everything else being thrown out of alignment. None of these treatments have given me any relief unfortunately. The only thing that helps is to be lying in bed with a pillow between my knees. Of course I can't do this until the baby comes, as I am still working, and there is just too much to do around my house. I'm really considering getting a cleaning lady a couple of times just to help me out.

This hormone is the same thing that causes women's feet to "grow" in size during the end of pregnancy. Some women's feet never go back to their original size because of this hormone. I really hope things either catch up on both sides soon or at least go back after giving birth. I can't imagine this being something I will have to deal with for a long time after the baby is born.

Until things loosen up all around or the baby is born, I just look like a pregnant weeble wobble with a limp!!

The thing that was so scary to me was not knowing when I was going to go into labor. That threw me into SO many panic attacks that I can't even tell you. The anxiety I felt over that, though, was finally relieved when I found out I had to have a C-section due to Ava being breech. I was actually able to enjoy my last 5 days of pregnancy because I finally had a date that I would be having the baby. I think it was quite possibly one of the best things that could have happened for me because I would have had a nervous breakdown waiting around to go into labor.

The thing that was most troubling to me was (a) that I was 9 days past due and no sign of baby and (b) I was petrified b/c they told me that day that she was measuring 9lb 6 oz and I was so scared of delivering a baby that big. I wanted a 6 or 7 lb little peanut! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

With Sarah I was having false labor for about 3 weeks before she was born. I'd get these intense contractions out of the clear blue, so my doctor (and DH) wanted me to stay home so that I wasn't driving when they came on.

With Andy, he was laying on a nerve most of the pregnancy, so for the last 5 months my left leg felt like it was on fire all the time. Once in a great while he'd shift off that nerve and onto the ciatic nerve - even more painful since I'd gotten used to the being on fire feeling.

Oh well, it was all worth it in the end. Chat Icon

Physically I was completely fine. No severe pain, minor back problems, if anything.

The thing that made me panic most before the delivery was seeing a 10cm circle in Bradley class. Also the idea of a needle in my back for the epidural or a c-section scared the bejesus out of me. Thankfully I didn't need either.

I was upset enough that they put an IV in me for the first delivery because I went too early & they were worried about infection.

What it all boils down to is I don't like needles & I HATE HATE having my wrists touched. The idea of a hole in my vein is enough to make meChat Icon .

Re: Spinoff to last post before delivery

Most of you know what happened to me, but here is the story (posted May 5, 2006). I gave birth via c-section on May 10, 2006. I had predonal labor for a week, only to find out that DD's cord was wrapped around her shoulders. She could not move into the birth canal. Here's the post:

Hii Ladies!

First of all, thank you so much for all the labor vibes and well wishes on Wednesday. I did not have the baby yet, but I was told I could have her any day.
Here's what happened:
I went to the NSUH Wed. night after my contractions were 4-5 minutes apart at around 11PM. I was hooked up to a contraction monitor and they were 3-4 minutes apart. Dh & I were so excited and Gracie's heartbeat was perfect. I was examined and I was 2 centimeters and 60% effaced, same as Tuesday night at my doctor's office. The L & D staff were so wonderful. The nurse said I am in "early labor" and could have the baby in 24-48 hours. They told us to walk around the hospital for 2 hours, then come back to get another internal. They thought I would be 3-4 centimeters by then. Well we came back to L & D at 1AM. I was examined and still no change. I started crying in L & D because I knew I was having contractions yet my body was not cooperating. I was so frustrated. They sent us "home" to my MIL's in Albertson. We were told to come back when my contractions felt stronger and more intense, or if my water broke. So all day yesterday I was having the same mild to moderate contractions now 3-5 minutes apart, with no changes.
I went to my doctor's office this morning and went back on the contraction monitor. I am still having mild to moderate contractions 3-5 minutes apart on average. The doctor told me to go home to Monroe and relax. The only thing I can do now is wait it out. The doctor said that this rarely happens with early labor, but it does happen sometimes. He did say that sometimes the contractions can stop all together, then come back days later. I asked if it was BH and he said it was "early labor". He said I can go on for days like this or have the baby tonight, there is no way to really predict when my labor will get more intense or if it will stop.
I did not want to wait at my MIL's anymore. Since I can have Chat Icon tonight or in a week from now, DH & I decided that we would wait it out in our own house. I have another doctor's appt. on Tuesday, so hopefully I will have her before then or when I see the doctor my cervix will be more dilated.
I am so frustrated. It feels like bad period cramps, yet not bad enough where I can't breathe. I just feel uncomfortable.
Anyway, please send labor vibes and dilation vibes my way. I just wish my water would break because it seems as if that is the "golden ticket" to get admitted and have the baby. I guess I hate not knowing when things will happen. Thanks again. Chat Icon Chat Icon
