Spinoff to layoff worries- Anyone worried about DH losing his job?
My DH brings up at 10 o'clock last night that he is worried about layoffs at his company Now this actually would be ok timing- but instead of going back to work in Sept. like planned, I would go back after my 8 weeks are up and he would be the SAHD until he found a job.
Not ideal by any means(I have NO desire to go back after 8 weeks and have been saving up like a mad woman so I don't have to) but at least we do have an option and that I have been saving for ME to be out of work.
All I kept thinking last night was thank God I have been busy and haven't turned in my paperwork to the school district. My AP thinks I am out until Sept. but until I file for a leave of absence, there is nothing they can do if I want to return. Of course, that means kicking my leave replacement to the curb which I would feel awful about.

Re: Spinoff to layoff worries- Anyone worried about DH losing his job?
while i'm worried about me - i'm not terribly stressed about Dave....
he works in sales, appliance sales. The store he works in sells more things that you 'need', not 'want'....so it helps i think.
Ya know - you WANT a bigger TV, and with times like these, you don't get it....but if your fridge dies, you HAVE to get a new one....
Have his sales been affected? Sure - but not as badly as we originally thought they would...
It also helps that he's been there for a VERY long time and he is not the lowest man on the totem pole (as I am)...so while we are concerned, we're not in full on panic mode yet...

Since I have been laid off, I worry about everything.
These are scary times.
I just hope and pray we will be ok.

Re: Spinoff to layoff worries- Anyone worried about DH losing his job?
Thursday night when I told DH about layoffs at my job, he told me that his union rep said to get prepared because they plan on layoff 44,00 people. DH is a mail carrier. DH didn't want to tell me because of my blood pressure. Anyway, the other night he said that his union rep told him to forget what he said, that its only the clerks, so he's safe.
On Friday when I was being told that I was being laid off, I made it a point to let them know that not only was I losing my job, my husband faces the same possibility.

I've just lost my job this past Friday and DH may be affected as well...
It's really scary times right now, not only are we losing our jobs but our 401k and other investments are going down the drain. :(

Re: Spinoff to layoff worries- Anyone worried about DH losing his job?
My DH did get laid off 2 weeks ago He found a new job that he starts next week, but it's not the same work he was doing & the pay really isn't going to be enough with the new baby coming. It's awful. He is still going to keep looking for something better, but if that doesn't come along, he'll have to get a second job. The timing of this couldn't be much worse. I'm so scared all the time.
