Spinoff to libra's new Jeep...do people name their cars?
I have never heard of such a thing...but apparently everyone that replied on that thread has and does.
Why name a car? And after what? 
Thanks...that was my loser question of the day!

Yup. I name all my cars. This one I have now is red, so I named him Twiz after Twizzlers which are red and my favorite candy.

well, I named our car the "Precious" but not in a "I love my car" type way...more like a DH is just like Golum from Lord of the Rings type way...
so, when I say it, I am saying it like him

Oh totally! I've named all my cars!
My very first car's name was Goldie. She was a 85 Gold Chrysler Laser.
My second car's name was Casper - a white 90 Prelude.
My third car (current car) is Priscilla - a black 98 Prelude.
Dh's car is a black Envoy - Ernie.
Why...not a clue...it just seemed natural.

I don't, but my best friend does.
She named her old car after a greek goddess (can't recall the name) Her VW Jetta, she named "Volfie"
But I have named the navigation system in DH's car, Betty. I don't know why, it just sounds like a Betty.

I always have. I get attached to my cars...except my VW. That one I gave a bad name   ...just like farfegnuggen but since it was always broken, I named her.....fyckkinbroken.

I named my car Violet. Its a purple Honda civic.
My friend names most of her cars. She had a camaro that had front damage that looked like jaws so we called it "jaws" She had her dad's old reliant K car... That was "the old man mobile" Then she had a Blue Bug... Called it Ringo.
She had a silver Gulf and now she has a light blue convertible bug no names for them

I never named mine, but I think that was b/c I inherited her from my mom and she wasn't new to me. I think that when I pick out my own car for the first time, I will probably name her.

oh many of my cars have had names. My Porsche was Lestat, my pick-up truck was Bettie Blue, my race car was Herbie ( but it was not a VW ), my roadster was Clarence.
I don't remember the others. DH had a truck once named Pappa Smurf though.

My brothers and I named my dad's '82 Chevy Caprice Classic "Old Faithful". Even though it had problems, it always got us to where we needed to go. It made the trip to DC and back my freshman year with all my stuff. The day after my dad picked me up it died.
DH named his Maxima "Imani", which mean faith. Why I don't know.

mine is Ladybug, its a red jeep wrangler with a black top. DH thinks i'm crazy.
however he did point out that all cars and all ships are females because if you treat them right, they'll always be good for you.
