Spinoff to Locks for Honest People..My Home Invasion Story

She will feel differently if she has a gun pointed at her head. I live in a nice town in Suffolk and never thought my home would be robbed....let alone while I was in it!!!
Please tell her to reconsider, at least for her childrens sake.
Can I ask you how did this happen? How did they get in, an open door or window? Do you mind telling us more to educate us? Hope you are all ok, but I can only imagine how that could affect you afterwards. I would feel so violated.
They actually broke down the door (it was deadbolted). I have since moved, but my brother and I own a two family house, he lived downstairs and I lived upstairs. The police believe they had been following him. Anyway, we do have an alarm and always kept it on "Stay" when we were in for the the night. That means if the alarm isn't shut off within a certain amount of minutes, it goes full blast. I wish I had known that there was an "Instant" setting and once the door is open the alarm goes on full blast. It was during the summer and we had air conditioners in the windows, so it was hard to hear what was going on downstairs. It was about 11pm and I heard some noise downstairs, but let me add that my brother was going through a separation and had been pretty upset earlier in the day. I went down to see if he was okay. The whole thing happened so fast and I didn't put together the fact that it was wierd that the alarm was beeping. I tried to open the door downstairs but it was shut. For some stupid reason, I tried to open it again, it was shut again. I tried to open it again and was pulled inside. All the lights were off except for the television in his bedroom so it even worse. I was held by the neck in the living room, there was a man pointing a gun at me in the kitchen and another guy in my brothers bedroom with him. They kept yelling for me to turn off the alarm (I was so panicked that I didn't even remember where the keypad was, let alone what the correct code was). I told them I would shut it off, all of a sudden I think the alarm went off full blast and I ran upstairs (I don't know why I didn't run out the front door, please don't ask ) I locked myself upstairs and called 911. I had no idea what was going on downstairs, but finally my brother called to me and said they ran out when the alarm went off. The police came pretty fast...they never caught them. They got away with some money, some of my sanity and alot of my sense of security.

Re: Spinoff to Locks for Honest People..My Home Invasion Story
Thank you for sharing your story. How scary! Just goes to show you that we ALL need to keep ourselves safe. Sure, anything can happen but why increase the ease for the criminals?
I too hate when we have our A/C on (not central air so it is noisy). I hate that I cannot hear what is going on outside of whatever room we happen to be in.
Wow, how scary. Glad you guys are physically ok. I hope you are mentally ok as well.
