Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
How do you do it already having a little one? I feel like when I was pregnant with Jack - if I was tired - I took a nap. If I wanted to watch A Baby Story all day I would do just that.
This is one main reason I am scared of getting pregnant again. Where do you find the energy to care for the first child - if you feel like crap carrying the second one?

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
You just kind of do it. I felt pretty crappy at the beginning of my pregnancy this time around. It seemed DS ALWAYS wanted me to play with him and I just didn't want to. I would go into the playroom with him and just lie on the floor while he played. I ALWAYS took a nap when he would nap and that would help a lot!

Well for me, I was so so sick the first time and got lucky this time and did not have one second of morning sickness, nausea or anything else.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
It was a bit of an adjustment at first, but once I was in a routine it got better. (Once the second trimester started! ) Also, I still had DS in daycare two days a week since I had lost my job, so that helped. I have since taken him out entirely since I was having no luck getting a job being pregnant! Now, I just take a nap when he naps if I am tired. I'm pretty lucky that I wasn't sick for long, I'm in the honeymoon phase. When the 3rd trimester starts I'm sure it will get rough. DH is a big help as well, so it's not all left up to me. Somehow you just make it work.

You just do it. You don't think about it. I was sick later on in my second pregnancy and it was horrible, but I just did what I had to do. You get distracted with the child you already have and you do get through it. Now with my pregnancy with #3, I am started to get the M/S at night and it STINKS because that's when I'm home with my kids, but I just do what I have to.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
I hate this phrase, but it's true: "You just do it." I also worked until the end the 2nd time, which I didn't with DD#1 since I'm a teacher and she was a September baby. I would contain Katherine (she was still very little) into two rooms and I would doze off on the couch while she played...that sort of worked At that point, she would only take like one 30 minute nap per day Occasionally, I also took advantage of days off/half days and kept Katherine at the babysitter's. I guess in the end, the 2nd pregnancy is QUITE different than the first in that respect!!

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
I can sit here and write a book... however... Well, you just deal and do what you have to do. It's not easy. thankfully my daughter is old enough to take care of herself (she was a little over 3 when I got pregnant and now almost 4). I had a lot of help when I was my sickest and in the hospital a lot from HG but now almost nearing the end with all the painful 3tri. feelings I just take it slower and do what I can do. It all works out. remember you are Supermom!

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
Like a PP poster said.......you just have to do it. There is no other choice but to do it. Like everything else...it all works out.
Everyone's life is different now that we have a child. We already don't do everything we did before we became mothers. Our lives have already been adjusted. Becoming pg again and bringing the new baby home will be more adjusting but it all fits like hand and glove.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
For me since my DH is not home to help, I am not going to lie it was hard being so tired I can't tell you how many times I fell asleep reading her bedtime story because I was just done. I was lucky and was only 'sick' for about 3-4 weeks for a couple of hours a day and it was very mild and usually while I was at work. But the feeling tired part was/ is hard as I am chasing a 2.5 year old around. But where there is a will there is a way.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
I think it makes you stronger second time around b/c you do have that other lil one to take care of. I nap when she naps. when I get nauseau its just a feeling, and when I play with DD I forget about it. yesterday I was off and did nothing- I watched bringing home baby while DD was napping. You would be amazed how you really can do it and not even think twice about it.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
You have no choice!! The first 4 months of this pregnancy I was home with an IV line in my arm due to HG caring for DS~ I had help from Dh and my mom, but most of the time, I was caring for DS because I was who he wanted~ I cant tell you how many times I would be holding DS and trying to walk around the house attached to an IV pole and trying to be careful so I wouldn't rip the IV line/needle out of my arm...or running to the bathroom or sink to vomit while DS was attached to my leg~ I would rest when he napped and thankfully he goes to bed early (6:30), so I would crash the minute he was in his crib
ETA: I shed alot tears during this period, but I believe it made me stronger, because I never complained

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
Just like Bicosi said you just do it. When I pregnant the 2nd time I was sick 24/7 for 4 months vomiting everyday. I was working f/t and driving DS to daycare every day. There were times where I had to pull over w/ DS and vomit. It was really bad. I don't mean to scare you but you just get through it. But thank god when I got home DH would let me rest and he would take care of DS at night. But those days are over.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
You just force yourself.
When I was PG with #2, I had pretty bad m/s, and I felt like crap for the whole first trimester. But I dragged my butt off the couch to play with DD and to do whatever I normally would do for her (with some puking breaks in between )
It su cks but you just gotta do it.

Honestly, it's hard but you do what you have to.
I was sick day til night with my second one for the 1st 3 months. There were some days that I gagged at the thought of feeding her. Unfortunately, I don't have family to help so I just did what I had to do and that is how you get through it. DH did help when he came home too.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
First, I want to reassure you that EVERY pregnancy can be different. If you had your face in the toilet for your first pregnancy, you could be perfectly fine for your next. (Same along the lines of having a VERY fussy infant, you can have the angel baby next).
How did I do it? I napped whenever I could. I was completely exhausted. Try to not to lift your first as much (although it's hard when he's having tantrums & throwing himself on the ground).
My 3 hour train ride to work was a lifesaver - except that I was so exhausted that last month of work that I made it home the right way like 5 times in one month. I slept through transfers, took the wrong train, wound up at the wrong stop when my car was at another station.
As for the energy, you just suck it up the best you can. It's like when you are so sleep deprived & your son is crying. You get up anyway. You push yourself beyond what you thought were your limits & rest any chance you get.

Hyperemisis Gravidarum..it is EXTREME morning sickness. The best way to describe it is imagine having the worst case of food poisioning all day/everyday with no relief!!
Several girls on here were diagnosed with HG. it isn't too common~

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
You push through it. I would relax when he would nap, lay on the couch when he was playing on the floor. I also noticed I went out more because I felt bad keeping him in. I tried to go for walks everyday or everyday other day. I think it really helped.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
Like everyone said, you just do it....I didn't have bad ms with either pg, but it was a little worse with #2. I was also working FT and coming home to an active toddler. I got laid off when I was 34 weeks pg and I still sent Nate to daycare 3 days a week. I just couldn't keep up with him at that point, I was exhausted. I definitely relied on DH and my ILs more and asked for more help.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
I was miserable and cried a lot...but my son kept me going.
I would lay on his carpet in his room and he would play around me...he used to roll his little cars up and down my legs..
My mom would have to come over and feed him dinner because I couldn't do it...
After the ms went away I just felt more tired but I still kept busy with my son

Its really not to bad for me, Julia is a great kid and very easy going, and when I'm tired and need a nap she will nap with me. I have a lot of help from my DH and MIL and if I need a brake they will take her for me.

Re: Spinoff to morning sickness question - preggo 2nd time around
I am going through this right now. and i am always tired and just nauseated especially at night. I am also working full time and dont have much help from DH in the evenings b/c he works late hours. I guess I just suck it up and forget about the sickness. There are times when i am way too tired to play with DS so I jsut put him in his play pen and sleep for a little while. Its really hard and I only have a few more weeks of this sick feeling hopefully.

Only 2% of pregnancies are diagnosed with it. It's really quite difficult and sad :( I like the others were on IV's for fluids (home health care while in between the hospital visits), Reglan pump and Zofran pump along with several other medications to help you and the baby survive. I lost my last pregnancy due to the illness' severity. Anyway, you get through as hard as it is. My poor daughter has seen enough and thankfully is very strong and loves taking care of mommy (but I should be the one taking care of her!)
It's a horrible disease and unfortunetly there is no cure, just medications to numb you and get through that moment.
