Spinoff to my anethesia question- CIO
Ugh, Colin is having a procedure the day after Mother's Day/his baptism. He'll likely have to fast which means I can't nurse him. Right now he stil nurses at least once - usually between 2-4AM and then around 6AM. I'm going to be SO stressed thinking he's going to starve that night. If you're OK with CIO, would you, if in my situation, try it this week in an effort to get him sleeping through the night before this happens? He'll be 6 months on Friday. I am not a full blown CIO type of gal. With Ryan I let him go maybe 15-20-minutes and he was on/off crying so I could handle it. I don't know what to do in this case. it's really upsetting to me to know my baby is being put under and I can't nurse him to comfort him.

He takes a bottle right? Maybe you can give him a bottle of water/juice in the middle of the night if he wakes up.
If you are ok with CIO then you can give it a chance in the next week or so and see how it goes.

He can have juice? Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I should do that now - try giving him a water bottle in the middle of the night and see if he stops getting up to nurse. Wonder if that'll work

When Kaydyn had surgery she was able to have clear liquids up until 2 hours before the procedure...she just wasn't allowed food, milk, or formula from midnight on.

Re: Spinoff to my anethesia question- CIO
if you think he can sleep through the night and hes only waking bc its now habit then yes i say CIO BUT if he is truely hungry then i wouldnt... my daughter usually wakes any where between 5-6 for a feeding and the day of her procedure she woke crying and i just distracted he with toys until we left. If you are up for it, perhaps try waking him to nurse around midnight (since its no nursing after midnight) and see how he does in the AM. But remember, you will likely be up & out of the house much earlier then he is used to the actual day of the procedure.
