Spinoff to my Nightime Routine post: Bedtime?!?!
Okay, I ready about 1/8 of the Healthy Sleep Habits book. I got that I was not noticing the sleepy signs and Troy was not napping well or enough. But one thing that I am not able to acheive is an earlier bedtime.
At this point, Troy is sleeping thru the night (has been since around 2mos), but whenever I try to make his bedtime ealier, he wakes up about 30 min to 1 hr later. If I try to put him to bed any earlier than 9, he wakes up at least 30 min after he is in bed! I see that some ladies get their DC to bed much ealier. Is that a gradual thing?
When I try to put him down ealier, I'd do it like 20-30 min ealier, nothing drastic.

SAME WITH NOAH!
I have tried before to get him to bed earlier. The few times I got him to bed between 8pm-10:30 pm he was back up 30-45 minutes later.. and finally went to bed around 11 pm.
Since it works for me and he sleeps a solid 9-12 hours a night, I am gonna go with it....

Christopher wants to be asleep EARLY, like 7.30, but then he fights it, so we keep him up til like 8.30, but any later than that we have meltdown central here

I am thinking the same thing at this point! He's been consistant with a bedtime of 9pm-ish now. I am just curious why this book says to gradually get the child to a early bedtime. Not for nothing, but we don't need to be up at 6am, so if he's going to sleep for 10-12 Hrs, I'd rather it be 9p-9a versus 6p-6a.

Re: Spinoff to my Nightime Routine post: Bedtime?!?!
TJ usually doesnt go to bed until 9-9:30. I think as they get older, the bedtime eventually gets older b/c they are able to make it through the night without another feeding, but also b/c as they get older they get more active and in turn get more tired and need more sleep. I think 9 is ok for now. If I put TJ down any earlier, he wakes up also.

Re: Spinoff to my Nightime Routine post: Bedtime?!?!
I shoot for 10pm. I'll start a "routine" about 9 and hope she's down for the count by 10. If she goes down any earlier she's up a few times throughout the night. If we get her to sleep between 9:30-10 she'll only fuss once during the night to feed and then she's back down.
I can't imagine trying to get her down any ealrier than 9:30!

Re: Spinoff to my Nightime Routine post: Bedtime?!?!
I used to keep Paige up later until i got a routine. But, I noticed that her crankiness during the evening was due to being overtired. My DD cannot stay up past 730 or she is a mess. So basically she goes down betwen 7 & 730 and sleeps until 6 am. She wakes maybe around 4. I hear her in there making noises but she falls back to sleep.
Maybe you can adjust his bedtime slowly. Or maybe he doesnt need to go to bed early like some other kids. One of my friends puts her DC down around 9 also and they sleep until 8-9. Paige, no matter how late i put her to bed will be up at 6.

I don't think there is a need to change DS's bedtime if it is working for you. It's great that your son sleeps through the night. If you are happy with things, there is certainly nothing wrong with a 9 o'clock bedtime.
My DD is a 7:00-6:30 sleeper. I'd love to get her to sleep later in the morning but she's really ready for be at 7 so I am stuck there for now.

Re: Spinoff to my Nightime Routine post: Bedtime?!?!
Don't make yourself crazy about making an earlier bedtime if you feel DS is sleeping enough at night and taking good naps during the day. Every child is different and the book is more of a guideline than anything else. For us the earlier bedtime really worked. Ds pretty much gets up at the same time every day, even if he's put to bed late. so in order for him to get the most sleep, and DH and I to get some quiet time, we put him to bed early.

Re: Spinoff to my Nightime Routine post: Bedtime?!?!
I say if he wants to fall asleep at 9pm let him because he is sleeping throughout the night - why fix something that is not broken. When DS was that age 9pm was his bedtime as well and would wake up around 7:30am. Now at 10mths he goes to sleep at 8pm everynight and waks up at 7am.
