Spinoff to my own post... about the cop who came to my door...
OK, so I just posted a story about a huge fight at my neighbor's house across the street. I called 911 because I didn't have the local police department number. The phone rang about 10 times and they never picked up. I hung up because the people across the street went in the house.
5 minutes later a cop rings our bell, DH went to answer the door and here is what was said:
Cop: We have a report that you called 911. DH: Yes, we were trying to get your local phone number. Cop: OK the number is 908-245-3200. DH: OK, thank you
After that the cop left. Do you find it strange that the cop did not ask why we called 911 in the first place? What if DH was someone who broke into our home and was holding us hostage? (OK, far fetched but what if?)
I just found it odd that DH said we were calling 911 to get their number and he never asked us why we were trying to call them.
I guess the good part is that it is nice to know the cops will show up at our house if we call 911 and don't actually talk to someone!

Yes, I do find it odd that they didn't ask you why you called. Even if other officers had been at the neighbors house and 'your' cops knew that, they shouldn't assume that's why you were calling...if that was even the case.

I had called 911 a few months ago. I thought someone had broken into my house. It turns out my father got home early. The cop still came and made direct eye contact with me and was asking if i was okay, looking for me to give a sign that i wasnt with out having to say it. Just in case there was something going on that he couldnt see.

I think the cop may have misunderstood... and thought the reason you called 911 was to get the local #, not to report an incident......
