*Spinoff* to National Grid and adding Gas Line - East Islip
Hi All -
Seeing that post made me curious...How do you go about proposing an addition of gas lines? Oil bills are a killler...
I specifically live in East Islip, Country Village Section.
Any posters live in this area and know if this has been proposed before?

First you have to call and find out if there's even gas in your area.

Call national grid. They will tell you where the nearest line is. I knew mine was at the next corner so we got a few neighbors and the line was ran for us. But now new neighbors want gass and they won't open the street again for 2 years.

Call national grid and they will tell you if and how much it will cost to bring the lines to your house. My mom is in country village and theres gas two blocks from her, but they told her it would be almost $70,000 to get it to her house. They charge $107 per foot to bring the line to the front of the street.

Thank you everyone for the responses.
I am going to give national grid a call.
Additionally though, does anyone have an idea of how much it costs to actually covert your house if the gas lines are within reach?
I would imagine this would have a pretty hefty price tag...yet I dont have any idea whats really involved.

There are a few variables, but I believe it is generally within the $7K - $9K range, if there will be no charge from National Grid to move the gas line to your home
