spinoff to Nursery Schools...

I will most likely not start Emily on a formal "Nursery School" until she is 3 .... so I still have a little bit of time to think about things but I am sure that the time will fly...

I am wondering how much Nursery Schools run, cost wise, on average.

When I was a preschool teacher, 5 full days was somewhere around $6500/year, at a private catholic school. A lot of parents complained that it was too expensive, and we lost a lot of kids because of it. I'm wondering if that is the going rate, or what exactly, the going rate is.

Most likely when she is 3 we will only have her in 3 half days, when she's 4 we'll increase it, but I'm just wondering what the costs are like out there.

Re: spinoff to Nursery Schools...

I looked at a few nursery schools in Suffolk county...the prices ranged from $190 to $250 plus a month(for 3 days a week-- 2-3 hours a day). Plus registration fees, and a host of other small fees. We went to some open houses this month, and most of the schools that we visited were already having registration for the fall!

Hope Emily is feeling better!

Re: spinoff to Nursery Schools...

We will be sending Emily to preschool this Fall, she'll be 3 yrs 2 mths when she begins.

We started with 2 AMs a week - 5 hrs total. We chose a more expensive school for several reasons and we'll be paying $180/mth. $40 app fee - no other fees.

My friend sends her son to a school in a neighboring town and pays only $100 for the same hrs per month, but that is the least expensive I've heard of near me.

Re: spinoff to Nursery Schools...

My son went to a Catholic school for Nursery (ages 3-4) and now he is still in the same Catholic school for Pre-K (ages 4-5).

The Nursery program was 3 days a week from 8:30-11:00 (2.5 hours). It was about $2000 for the year.

Pre-K is 4 days a week. SAme hours (8:30-11:00). It is $2300.

We just signed Andrew up for a 3 year old program he will start in September (he will be 3 in May). He will go 3x a week, from 9:30-12. We will have the option to increase him to 4x a week, but for now we will keep it at 3x. It's going to cost us just over $200 a month (Sept - June).

The Catholic grammar school in our area is where he will more than likely start Kindergarten. It's just over $3000 for the year.

Are you in Island Trees SD? They have a preschool program that is currently $117/month for 3 days 9-11:30. I believe it's going up to $131 next year. Children must be potty-trained and turn 3 by September 1st to be enrolled.

Re: spinoff to Nursery Schools...

Jesse is going to the 2 1/2 year old program in Sept. It's two days per week for 90 minutes each, $140 per month. He does not have to be potty trained. The three year old and four year old classes cost less per month.

ETA: No registration or application fee. There is a $50 non-refundable deposit though.

Re: spinoff to Nursery Schools...

Last year I paid $115 per month for 3 days, 2 1/2 hrs a day.

This year I pay $170 per month for 5 days, 2 1/2 hrs. per week.

It increases a bit each year it seems, I think they said it will be $125 for 3 days for my DD in Sept. This is in line with other schools in my area (Massapequa) but there are a few more expensive ones. I know when I was originally looking, I also had a friend looking in her area. (Nesconset) and they were alot more $$ in general.

So I think it depends on the area.

Molly goes 4x a week full-time for $750 per month. It is considered preschool at 3 years old, not daycare but I use it as daycare since I work.

We are in Island Trees and I think that school is RIGHT near us. Is it where they have the BOCES school too? Near the Library -- Gallow school? That is in walking distance from our house.
