spinoff to official food thread, feeding table food, some questions
I am having such a hard time with table food.
What is throwing me off is veggies and meats, not cheese/dairy or breads of course.
I made chicken soup last night...DD ate a few macaronis and a few carrots then wanted no part of it. She barely ate, even when I tried to spoon feed her some mushed up.
I dont understand..should we have them finger feed or mash and spoon feed? B.c when they finger feed, they barely eat b/c it takes so long, kwim?
What do you do?

My kids are little piggies. They DIVE into their food. But I think it just takes practice. Try feeding her some and then saying you do it! Make it fun-fly the food into her mouth say MMMMM isn't that good? Get really animated. Thats what I do for my kids anyway Maybe I'm a fool!
I have given them a chicken soup sort of thing but I strained all the liquid out and chopped the pieces small. Its the perfect food for them because everything is so soft. Try some different foods. Also if you go back to the other thread-I posted my "guidelines" for what to feed them.

I did do that. What I just am confused about is...is it better to let her self feed, even if she only eats a few bites, or to mash and feed her, to be sure she eats enough? I guess thats where I hit the brick wall...not sure what to do.

Since formula should still be her main source of nutrition, I'd let her feed herself. After she stops feeding herself, you can try to offer her more by mashing it or you can mash some first and give her table foods after. If she's hungry, she'll eat. DS would rather feed himself and prefers food he can gum over mashed food.

I totally understand. Chloe is just getting used to feeding herself, but I feel like she doesn't eat nearly as much as if it is pureed and fed to her. What I have been doing is giving her an "appetizer" to practice - some sort of diced fruit or peas. Then I feed her pureed food and then I let her practice some more with some small pieces of fruit or veggie or puffs. Im not sure if this is right or not, but that is what we have been doing

I forgot that! We did that too Main food was baby food but would practice with others after. Then I started phasing out baby food.

Re: spinoff to official food thread, feeding table food, some questions
How old is DC?
My DS was about 15 mos and didn't eat meat. I went over my sis house and we toasted something with our glasses. DS thought that was "fun" so we started doing "meat cheers" - we put a bite of meat on our fork, clash them together them chow down.
Sounds like that might be a little advanced for your DC (maybe in time)
When DS was on baby food - he never ate meats.
It could be that your DC is sitting too long and getting bored and that's why not as much food is getting to the mouth.
Sounds like its just a practice thing though.
