Official Table Food Recipes and Ideas Thread

I see so many questions about table feeding and ideas so I thought it might be a good idea to post some recipes/ideas here for us all to refer to. I would love some new ideas! here are a few of mine:

I made a black bean puree with canned, rinsed black beans and tofu cream cheese(you can use regular-I use Tofu because D has a dairy allergy) I used my immersion blender but could also use a food processor. i spread it on tortillas, roll and then cut down the middle and into rings so they each get the 1/2 rings. The love it!

I also mix things and mix a little olive oil in.(potatoes and lentils, different beans etc.) I use spices but try to avoid salt. I have used garlic, oregano, basil and rosemary

Re: Official Table Food Recipes and Ideas Thread

This is a great idea! DD just started on table foods a few days ago so I don't have many ideas yet. I have made DD's pureed baby food and added a lot of different spices and herbs (no sugar or salt though) DD's favorite is lentils with cardamom. Your idea got me thinking... I have made a white bean puree with rinsed canned cannelini beans, garlic, parsley and lemon juice. I might try this for DD and spread it on tortillas.

That sounds GOOD! My kids can't have cheese tho(veg cheeses are NASTY) Well R can but I pretty much cook the same for them since D gets hives if anyone even touches him with dairy

I made them butternut squash yesterday-just cut in half brushed with olive oil and roasted for about a hour. I alos made them mini meatloafs. I used rameikins(sp?) and sauteed shallots with red and green pepper then added that to a mixture of ground turkey and pork and baked for about 20 minutes

I hear you-it was hard for me at first. What I do is look at baby recipes and think about foods I can dice that are soft. I also want to introduce them to different flavors and colors since DH and I are pretty adventurous eaters.

Those are pretty much my guideline, but I learn something new every day. I learned yesterday that their throats are the size of a woman's pinky finger so all items should be about the size of the pea. I was definitely cutting things larger than that so now I started cutting them smallerChat Icon

I make DS (8 months) a chicken, broccoli casserole. I make some sort of pasta and rough chop in processor. I then warm some formula and put cheese in too melt. I then chop broccoli and chicken and combine with pasta and cheese. Put in a ramkin and bake for 30 minutes. DS loves this.

Re: Official Table Food Recipes and Ideas Thread

Bump for Randi and also a new food I tried

I bought organic ground chicken and mixed it with soy yogurt(you can use regular), whole wheat panko breadcrums, a chopped shallot and fresh basil. Put the mixture into mini muffin tins and make them little chicken meatloafs. I also made them a purple sweet potato which I wasn;t sure if they would eat but they did.

I also bought a golden hubbard squash that I will cut and roast with some olive oil(don't forget all the winter squashes are out now which my kids love.

Finally I bought Israeli couscous-which is bigger than regular but smaller than a peaChat Icon

most recently, I made meatballs with penne and sauce for the family and froze 3 meatballs for DD. I cut the penne in little pieces and smush up the meatball. I add in Peas and parmesan cheese. She loves it! Actually, she loves Peas!

She loves pancakes, eggs, avocado, potatoe pancakes, grilled chicken and cheese. DD doesn't really care for pureed foods anymore. She loves to pick up her food.

I was hoping more mommy's would post on this thread. I am always looking for new ideas!

Today, DD had butternut squash raviolis. She loved it! The other day I bought Praeger's mushroom patties. DD absolutely loved it!

Tonight, I am going to attempt to make mini veggie patties and freeze. I plan to sautee mushrooms, chickpea, frozen mixed veggies, broccoli, brown rice, wild rice with a clove of garlic and olive oil. Put all of the ingredients into the food processor. I am also going to add ,egg, and panko crumbs for binding.

ETA: I didn't have to use the egg. The chickpea/rice was binding enough.

Judy this is a great idea. I can totally make this for my kids-if I can find chickpeas that are not processed with tree nuts which I can't seem to find anywhere!

I mad ethem pumpkin with ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg but they didn't really like it so I didn't post. They did like a hubbard squash I made them(basically like a butternut) I just roasted it with some olive oil. I also give them polenta-its the perfect baby food. easy to serve and heat and soft. I buy organic at my grocery store-right now I have basil and garlic but they have also had the plain

I think people don't post on it because I am the thread killer and i started the threadChat Icon

the polenta and spinach pancake sounds great!! Gotta try them both!!

It wasn't cumbersome but then again I like to cook. I would just make the rice the day before. By the way, I just had two of them! They were quite tasty....almost like a falafel.

Melissa, do you think the polenta could take the place of the chickpea? what about hominy? or beans?>

I think boxed polenta(that you make yourself) could. The one I buy is sort of a loaf so I don't think the texture would be right. Here's a recipe I was e-mailed:

can be served to eaters as young as 6-months.

Earthy cumin and sweet carrots are a go-to combination. Enhanced by a dash of warm vanilla and honey, this side dish compliments any holiday meal.

Serves 4

Ingredients
• 1 lb carrots, washed and trimmed

• ¼ cup olive oil

• 2 tbsp honey**

• 1 tsp vanilla extract**

• 1 ½ tsp cumin

• ¼ tsp salt

• parsley (optional)

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Place carrots on a baking sheet and toss with all other ingredients to coat thoroughly. (If cooking for young eaters, skip the salt in this step. Instead, separately salt older kid and adult portions before serving.) Bake for 30-35 minutes, until carrots brown in spots and are soft throughout.

3. Garnish with parsley and serve!

**NOTE: Children under 12 months should not eat honey. Substitute agave syrup instead.
