SPINOFF to praying...
When/if you have children, how will you introduce/handle prayer?
And please, no flames I am genuinely interested because I had a "less than traditional" upbringing. Ugh, I forgot "OTHER".

Re: SPINOFF to praying...
I would explain it, but also make them do it. I would not make a teenager do it, but I can see while tucking them in doing it with them or before dinner.

Re: SPINOFF to praying...
I'm not positive, as I don't have children yet , but most likely, we will educate our children about different religions, offer them our religion and let them decide.

Re: SPINOFF to praying...
As neither DH nor I engage in prayer regularly at home, we will most likely introduce our children to prayer when we go to synagogue. They will learn more of the daily prayers and blessings when they attend hebrew school.

Re: SPINOFF to praying...
I will teach them about my religion and talk to them about religion right from the start... whether they understand me or not...
But i will not force my child to pray until they truly understand the meaning of it...
And even after i don't think i would make my child do it... Faith has to come from within...you can't force someone

Re: SPINOFF to praying...
I chose the first one, but I wouldn't say I would "make" them do it. Rather, I think I would pray with them before bed and take them to church with me. Small children don't have the intellectual or moral development to make that "choice". I will raise them in my faith, and if they choose something else when they get older, that is fine with me.

Re: SPINOFF to praying...
Well, I spoke to my son about it and we pray together. He also goes to catholic private school and they pray and learn about our religion there. If he wants to explore other religions when he is older, we would be ok with it.

Me too. I remember getting on my knees with my dad to pray every night -- I looked forward to it, and learned all about my various (dead) ancestors. He travelled a lot so when he spent time with me it was very special.
My dad died in 1991 and that is one of my fondest memories of him - kneeling with me at my bed to pray.
