Spinoff to SAHM Dream Job post
Kind of the opposite issue has arisen for us. I was SAHM and it's looking like I've got to go back to work soon. I've discovered a new position at my old office that has total flexibility in hours. for ex. they have a 6pm-1am time slot that I could do alleviating the need for daycare and allowing me to still be home with Ellie, but obviously not getting much sleep b/c she'll wake up at 6:30 still. This new unit they've created is staffed entirely by moms who wanted to see their kids more.
My issue is the job itself sounds rather boring and its all desk job paperwork. There would only be one other atty working with me so I really wouldn't be getting back into the work life that I'm used to b/c suddenly I wouldn't be interacting with lawyers, judges, or clients just the one other woman working with me. So minimal adult conversation/interaction. But it would give us extra money without having to spend half of my pay on daycare.
How would you all feel about it?

I think its awesome that your company created this for moms! I understand that it wouldn't be a totally "ideal" situation but I would def do it. Money would be easier and no daycare is great too! Make a postive vs negative list with DH and see which way it turns out......Good Luck!!

Re: Spinoff to SAHM Dream Job post
Like I say with most things even though it's not ideal I would at least give it the 90 day trial. If you hate it you could go back to working regular hours and send Ellie to daycare but maybe it won't be as bad as you think. Do you think it will hurt your career at all doing that position? I guess that's the only way I would consider not doing it.

Re: Spinoff to SAHM Dream Job post
that's the way I'm leaning. Might as well try it. They didn't create this position for moms it's just that the moms jumped on it b/c of the hours. In fact, I left them b/c they didn't have any part-time work available, but now they do.

Re: Spinoff to SAHM Dream Job post
As a part time lawyer and mom of two, I completely understand your problem. While I consider myself lucky to work for a federal agency part time, I definitely have given up a certain amount of professional advancement. For me it was a good compromise as I was very reluctant to give up practicing law completely.
What I have found is although I have chosen not to pursue certain opportunities, they still exist. In an odd way I find this comforting. I say try it you can always decide its not for you.
I have alot of friends who have stopped practicing law and now five or more years later, would jump at a chance like this. I guess I would have to say that it is always good to "be in the game" whatever form that may take.

I am also an attorney looking for a position with flexible hours. It sounds like the perfect solution.
