Spinoff to the BTDT mommies thread.for NEW moms
Let's also introduce ourselves! I am Camille....I have a Mattea Jordyn who was born on Mother's day this year. She is 8 wks old and weighs about 12 lbs. She is sleeping a good 7-8 hr stretch at nite and eating 5 oz usually. Looking forward to getting to know some of the BTDT Mom's as I have ALOT of questions!
Thank you for making us feel welcome!

Re: Spinoff to the BTDT mommies thread.for NEW moms
My name is Beth. DS (William--Will) was born 6/24. He's FF only, feeding every 3-4 hours on about 2 ounces or a little over.
My current issues/worries...
-My thigh is still numb from the epidural...is this normal?
-DS was having gas issues on Similac (FF only), so we switched him to Enfamil Gentlease, but he is now spitting up constantly...
-DS's umbilical cord (still attached) was bleeding from the stump last night and this morning...Is that normal?
-DS has kept me up straight for several nights, but is an angel during the day, sleeping almost constantly. I am trying everything to try to get him to stay awake during the day and sleep for longer stretches at night. Any suggestions are welcome.
-DS was in the NICU for 5 days, but make a remarkable turn around from a difficult delivery and gained 8 ounces while in the hospital! He was born 7 lbs 5 oz. and was 8 lbs at his 1-week check up!

Hi..My thigh was numbish for about 3 wks so I think that could be normal..it eventually went away one day and I didn't even realize it LOL.
DD is on Gentlease also but doesn't have the spitting up issue....ask your Ped...
The sleeping obviously I am new at but the first month was rough for us...Mattea would sleep amazing all day and then was up eery 2 hours on the dot at nite....truthfully we just started "playing" with her right before we put her down for the nite...laying her in bed with us..talking to her..playing music..etc and then swaddling her really tight and putting her into her bassinet still awake...it took a few nites but now she goes in fully awake and falls asleep within 5-10 minutes. To me this is SO much easier then having to rock her to sleep each nite...she doesn't cry or scream she just lays staring at her aquarium and dozes off. I think the routine of it is familiar to her and she knows that thismeans sleepytime. Mattea was born at 6lbs 2 oz and at her 2 month checkup was 11 lbs 6 oz...the Dr. was so happy with her weight gain because she had some issues and spent 2 wks in the hospital before cominghome.....Hopefully the baby sleeps better for you tonite!

Re: Spinoff to the BTDT mommies thread.for NEW moms
Hi,
My Name is Angela my ds was born Feb 21, so I think i'm still considered a new mom!!
My latest obstacle is getting DS to sleep through the night. we have tried cio but it is not really working, i think i might be doing something wrong. He wakes up a few times a night just to cry and is not hungry. Even if we put him in bed with us for a few hours, he still wakes up.
We are also starting new foods- fruits, veggies and some meats, so that has been fun.
DS Was born at 8lbs 2 ozs and was 14lbs 8 ozs at his last visit.. he is a growing little man!!!
I look forward to chatting with you all!

Your thigh still being numb-I don't think so-I would call your Dr-I had no after effects at all from my epi
See if you can get him tested for milk allergy. My son was a refluxer and ended up having a milk allergy. It would make me suspect that he was having issues with soy since many milk allergic babies are also allergic to soy.
have you been putting alcohol on his belly button? That is what dries it out. After a few days if it is still bleeding take him to the ped and they will use sliver nitrate
I wouldn't keep him up during the day. It will take him a couple of weeks to get used to the day/night thing. You can start a bedtime routine like warm sponge bath, book, etc.

Thanks so much for the responses!
Do all of the other newborns hate bathtime? We are still doing sponge bathing, but DS wails or wimpers the entire time! I'll only do it when DH is home so we both take a side to try to bathe him more quickly!

Most do hate bathtime initially. It's like they forget they've been in a bag of water for 10 months
Also, if his belly button isn't dried out, you should still be doing spongebaths, not a bath-bath.

Hi, my name is Antonella and I had my on 6/30.
DS has a red rash on his butt from the diaper. I change his diaper all the time, and I tried all the creams out there. Are there any suggestions to help his little tushy!
