Moms of 8 week olds or BTDT mommies

How long was your child sleeping at night? And how many naps during the day. My dd is a TERRIBLE sleeper. She's been averaging 5 hours straight at night. She's so hard to get to go to sleep though. Last night she went to sleep at 9:00 pretty easily. DH and I thought, wow this is great! Then she was up at 12, 2 and stayed up until I don't even know how long because my DH took over (thank God for him, even though I feel guilty cause he has to go to work...but he only got up 1 1/2 earlier than his normal time). I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Do you think it's still too early to get a schedule going? Do they still call the shots at 2 months or is it possible?

On a happy note, she finally took a bottle last night. (I posted about her refusing it and just wanting the breast) It was the Dr. Brown's wide neck. But I think our hold up was over the nipple flow. I got her the level 2.

Hi Meg
AJ is getting better each night now. I do have a hard time getting him to go to sleep too. If I dont rock him to sleep he wont go to sleep. Chat Icon For the last few nights I have been lucky, he goes to bed around 9:30-10 and hasnt been getting up until 6. He then has a bottle and goes back to sleep until 9:30. He is up almost all day now. I think taking him out into the fresh air the last few days has really helped. I am Chat Icon it stays warm so I cant keep taking him to the park. Chat Icon

Deb,
I just sent you a FM about this.
thanks for your response! I'm so jealous that AJ is sleeping through the night!! I agree with taking them outside. Although it hasn't made my little one sleepy.

Re: Moms of 8 week olds or BTDT mommies

Hi!.. DD is almost 8 weeks and she just started giving us 5-6 hour stretches at night... she wakes to feed (an hour!) and then back down for another 3-4 hours... We put her down at 10ish....

But I too have such a difficult time getting her to fall asleep.. we start the bedtime routine two hours before she goes down... We bath her and then nurse.. she will fall asleep, and I will transfer to the bassinet... but then she will cry... so I walk her around, she cries, then I nurse again (probably for comfort) until she sleeps, and then transfer to bassinet... it takes two-four times of this before she is down for the night... sometimes 2 hours!

Napping, she has gotten better, but now they are shorter in duration (3-4 naps at 40 minutes) as opposed to 4 two- three hour naps.. Hope this helps... hopefully we will all get to sleep through the night soon!

Is she a BF baby? Breastmilk does not always hold them that long. MY DS started sleeping through the night at like 4 months. Once I started giving him solid foods along with the BM he started sleeping longer.

Dont worry, remember last week I was jealous of you because Maddie was sleeping thru the night. Maybe they are taking turns, next week is your turn for beauty rest.Chat Icon

Okay, so this sounds very similar to us. My baby is also BFed. I'm considering topping her off with some formula at night. I'm not sure if this will really make a difference. It's so funny cause when I want her to go back to sleep, she smiles and coos and it's so hard not to pick her up and start talking to her.
