That is whay when DH and I go to a party, we establish beforehand who is drinking and who is staying sober

yes and it really makes me mad when she does. she's a divorced mother of 2 small kids. why she would put herself in such danger, not to mention the danger to others just baffles me. she claims to love her children dear has a weird way of showing it.

I do too...

There is this older man who is a friend of a distant relative who randomly attends family parties, and he is known for drinking and driving. It infuriates me so the point where I ask if he'll be attending an event and if he is, I will not attend. He "knows" people, so although he's gotten pulled over, he's never gotten arrested or ticketed (which I think is disgusting in itself. It is the job of the authorities to get these law breakers off our roads and they let him go).

I know several people that have gotten DWIs. Some no longer drink, others still drink & sometimes drive.

My dad is an alcoholic and he has in the past. He stopped when we were in a bad accident when I was a toddler and my mom was pregnant with my brother. He was 25 at the time.

I'm sure I know other people who have but since most people who know me know I have ZERO tolerance for it they tend not to tell me these stories.

I used to know people who did this. When I was considerably younger. Now - most of my friends have matured enough to realize that this is NEVER okay. I did have one of my friends try to leave a party at my house the other day after he had a few drinks. I stole his keys and made him call someone. He was ****** at me, but was less annoyed the next day when he woke up still alive and not in jail. I might not be able to stop all of the fools, but I will when I can!

One of DH's friends used to do it all the time - he was a cop and thought he was above the law. His now wife gave him an ultimatum pretty much and he does not do it anymore.

my aunt and uncle are alcoholics, they drive intoxicated on a daily basis. they call themselves "functioning alcoholics"

how can someone be held responsible for what others do? just the other day there was a story posted about a guy who tried to stop his GF from driving drunk and she ran him over and killed him

Sadly- I don't think it will ever stop- and will always be a problem in our society.

Yeap my BIL and my friends DH. Sad...my theory you want to drink fine but don't put anyone else's life in danger by getting behind the wheel. That is why I believe there needs to be stiffer penalties and jail time for drunk drivers....they get off too easy.

I know someone who drove extremely intoxicated, crashed into a tree, landed himself in the hospital and the cops LET HIM GO without so much as a ticket. The best thing they could have done for this person was let him spend some time behind bars, but they didn't and I can't for the life of me understand WHY.
