Spinoff to the registry post...
what is the 1 gift that you got for your shower that you did NOT register for, but get a lot use out of?
we got a basket of things from friends of my MIL and one of the items in there were OXO measuring spoons and metal cups. I LOVE them and use them all the time!

We made a vow that we were not going to use any of our new items until we move into our new house.
Everything is packed in my DH's old bedroom at his parent's house!!!
I can't wait to move out of my apartment and start using all my brand new things.

I received these really nice placemats from BBB that I use every day. I only wish that I had registered for them because I would have registered for more than 4 of them!!

My SIL bought a "love kit" for my husband and I to use on our honeymoon. It was slightly embarassing when my husband opened the package and held it up for everyone to see.

colored mixing bowls from Pier One. I got them 12 years ago and I still use them almost everyday. My former landlady gave them to me.

The mom of one of my BMs (who I knew since I was a baby) bought pizza themed gifts.
A tupperware shaped like a slice of pizza, a set of triangular plates with pizza box designs on them, a pizza stone/pizza cutter/turntable/pizza server set, etc.
We actually use the plates and tupperware all the time!

My mom got us Luggage. We use it SOOO much (thankfully!).
I probably use it than any kitchen things i got (i'm clueless in that room)

it sounds silly, but a jar scraper! it's a small plastic tool to get the stuff out of the bottom/sides of jars. it has the most perfect shape for a jar. i fear the day day it breaks!

I know I don't use all that formal china!
I registered for a ton at Williams Sonoma and use a lot of it all the time!
DH's aunt gave us a beautiful picture frame that wasn't on the registry and I keep my fav wedding photo (us kissing in a gazebo  ) in it on my dresser and smile everytime I see it.

An outdoor set of plastic dishes. A cool summer pattern that included a serving tray, plates, cups and such. We use it all the time when we eat out on our back deck in the summer.

I just thought of something else I got that was awesome! my best friend gave me a huge stack of B,B&B 20% off coupons. she was collecting them for a long time and threw them in my wishing well. I was SO happy to get them and used them all

I didn't register for these, but DH's aunt gave me a basket to place in my guest half bath for guests to wipe their hands with, and we use them daily.
