Spinoff to the sick kid/daycare thing
I always thought it would be an excellent idea to have a daycare for sick kids...run by a nurse.
Obviously it would have to be set up with separate beds, lots of sanitation, handwashing, etc.
Obviously there is a point where they just want mommy & you stay home.
Just curious to hear other people's thoughts? Would you send your child to one?
Also, feel free to steal the idea & start a business...

I would love that. A set-up with cots/beds, blankets, soft toys (all things that could be sterilized or washed in hot water). A quiet day of reading, playing and cuddling.
I would only be concerned with how sick the kids were - do you send the kids who just have colds, or are kids with coxsackie etc. allowed to come? And how do you know the difference in the beginning (ie. thinking it's just a cold but it turns out it's the flu).

Re: Spinoff to the sick kid/daycare thing
Personally, if my DC is that sick that they need to be out of daycare, I wouldn't want them anywhere else but home.
Especially considering that usually when DC has to stay home, they have something highly contagious... pink eye, coxsackie, etc.

Re: Spinoff to the sick kid/daycare thing
That would be a great idea for me from now until January 1..
I've been back at work a month and I've already had to take an unpaid day because DD had a fever. I'm just waiting to see what DS hits me with, since he's only 4 months old and it's inevitable.
He's been congested since his second week in day care.

I think in theory it's a great idea, but I would be concerned that given that the child is sick already, would they be more susceptible to catching something else that someone else had?
kinda like how they say the worse place for someone whose immune system is already impaired to be is a hospital?

This is what I was thinking.
Also - I have a feeling that some people will send their children who are too contagious to be there.

There must be something like it on LI because my boss told me she has taken her son to one.

Maybe different rooms for the severity of the sickness? hmm I think its a good idea!

Re: Spinoff to the sick kid/daycare thing
I read about one in Parents magazine. It was started by a group of Ped nurses.
I wish I had the resources to start one.
ETA: The one I read about, has special ventilation systems. They also have seperate rooms for those kids that are much more contagious. Full medical staff, etc.

Re: Spinoff to the sick kid/daycare thing
I'd pay for it!! If given the choice, I would stay home with DD in a minute, but it's not always possible.

Re: Spinoff to the sick kid/daycare thing
Another thought that just came to mind.
Would it even be worthwhile?
Meaning, I am already paying daycare for my DC who is sick because we always have to pay, regardless if my DC is there or not.
Now I have to pay another place to watch my DC while they are sick? How much would it cost? Would it even make sense?
It seems to me that it would be more cost effective for me to take a personal day.
