Spinoff to the SUV question...

so we know more people are driving larger cars these days....but what about houses?

In the 1970s, the average size of newly built houses was 1,600 sq. ft. Today it is 2,300 sq. ft.

That is definitely adding to the fuel problems.

So how many of us live in houses that are bigger than we need? If you live in a 3,000 sq. ft. and drive a Prius, is that really helping?

I agree with this too! Chat Icon

I am watching HGTV and there are couples with *NEEDS* like a craft room!!!

A craft room!! *** is that?????? I mean, come on dude.

the home we purchase will most likely be no more than 2000 square feet, and will have at least 2 fireplaces to contribute to the home heating issue.

Very true - I think we forget about this - our houses, nowadays are HUGE! The average new house they are building in my area have to be at LEAST 2,000 square feet -- or more.

Re: Spinoff to the SUV question...

I live in an almost 4000sq ft home (ranch) but it was built in the 50's. There is an addition that was put on, but take that away, and the original house is still over 3000sq ft.

The majority of the homes in my area are on the large size but none of them are newer homes, they were built between the late 20's and 50's.

I get what you're saying though
