Spinoff to transitioning to whole milk - milk protein babies
If your LO was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy early on, were they able to drink whole milk at a year old? My ped originally said that was our goal. Did your ped have you try giving something other then whole milk to see if they were still allergic? Were any of your LO's still allergic? If so have they grown out of it since?
We have his 9 month appt on the 5th so I am going to ask then but I am getting nervous about all of this. I have been dairy free since he was 4 months old. I don't know if it's better if I try something with dairy and see how he reacts so that way it's filtered out. I know I still have 3 months left to go but I am getting nervous about all of this now.
Were you able to give your LO cake on the first birthday?

yes, DC had cake on his birthday and he was eating full fat yogurt and cheese at 12 months.
we waited to switch to whole milk until 14 months for other reasons - nothing to do with allergy.

Re: Spinoff to transitioning to whole milk - milk protein babies
I BF and eliminated dairy as well, starting at 6 weeks. My ped was very insistent that we wait until 1 year and then give him whole milk- she did not want me re-introducing dairy into my diet before that. So we waited, and gave him whole milk at a year with no issue whatsoever. For his birthday, I made him his own cake that was completely dairy free. I didn't want to take a chance of overloading him on dairy and him having a reaction on his birthday.

We transitioned to whole milk without an issue.
She had blood work done 1 week before her birthday and appt with the Ped.
Results were fine and she started eating dairy right after that.

Re: Spinoff to transitioning to whole milk - milk protein babies
DS was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy finally at 4 months old (after suffering for months undiagnosed). The goal was to have him on whole milk by 1 year but realistically he still couldnt tolerate it at that age. We very slowly started weaning him at just over 12 months old, but he wasnt fully on whole milk until around 18 months.
I remember having to be very careful and do a very slow wean process. If I did too much of a milk to formula ratio he would start throwing up. I did 7 oz of formula and 1 oz of whole milk for the first 2 weeks, then every few weeks I would increase by 1 oz of milk.
