Spinoff to Vaccination Q...Did your Ped's office let you...
Pick and choose the vaccinations you get or split them up and delay them? Many of the ped offices I have spoke with (including the one we are currently using) will not let you pick and choose which vaccs your DC gets - its got to be all. Also, the only one they will let you delay is the MMR.
For those of you whose peds let you do this - who do you go to and did you encounter resistance? TIA
Also - what resources did you turn to to educate yourself on making the decision what to do re: the vaccination schedule. I feel like it is hard to get honest opinions because the peds (the people you would most trust to ask) are so pro-vaccination.
Thanks.

just some food for thought....why do you think the peds are so pro-vaccination? I am not trying to be smart, just trying to understand the rationale.

Re: Spinoff to Vaccination Q...Did your Ped's office let you...
I didn't get to pick and chose, my children got their vaccinations at the pedi's schedule and I was fine with that. I did not delay the MMR or split it in either of my kids.
The one thing my pedi's office does is see the child each month for the first 6 months and give no more than 2 shots. SO I never felt like they were getting too much in one visit and we've never had any issues.

I actually going to say something similar.
I am not breaking up any vaccines, we've been fine so far, adn I am sure it will continue to be fine.

Not being smart - believe me I TOTALLY get the reason why vaccinations are necessary and I know it would be AWFUL if everyone refused to get them and I do intend to get DS vaccinated...but, like everyone else...I am SCARED with all the hoopla surrounding them. Also, although I believe that the peds mean well I look at history that they have not always been 100% right of course, many times they have prescribed meds etc that later turn out to be really harmful.

Re: Spinoff to Vaccination Q...Did your Ped's office let you...
I delayed getting the vaccines but did not split up the coupled DTAP or MMR. It meant more needles for my kids, plus insurance would not cover them if they were split because they are very, very expensive.
I read "A Shot in the Dark" which discussed possible reactions, pharmaceutical company lobbying, etc. My thought was if I could research car seats & cribs for my baby, I should also look into the immunization controversy which could result in rare, but fatal, consequences & make an informed decision based on both sides of the argument.

For me it was more questioning the FDA than the pediatrician. I worked in a law office with an attorney that handled the DES class lawsuit.

Yes I chose what she got and when. She's my child. They can't force you to do anything.

of course they can't...I think it is important that you educate yourself and decide what is right for YOUR child
