Spinoff to your SO having a dangerous job...
Do YOU have a dangerous job?
I teach in a sorta bad area --- and we've had a lot of gang violence right outside of my school lately -- but honestly I rarely think about it. I feel comfortable walking around there.

I teach in a high school on LI while it's not necessarily dangerous you never really know... kids have been known to occassionally fly off the handle and some of the boys are huge. I'm no petite flower but if a fight breaks out... seriously, I'm not stepping in.
I once read that teaching high school is one of the top ten dangerous jobs in America

Well, I have to climb on oddly placed steps with a crappy banister that ends halfway up into a makeshift booth in a roach laden theatre FAR off the beaten path on the LES. I'd consider that pretty dangerous.
Actually getting in and out of that booth is terrifying...and umm being in it too cause it effing shakes

I guess I'm in a dangerous profession too then! Well, as dangerous as an all-girls Catholic school can get...catty, yes; dangerous, probably not!

Re: Spinoff to your SO having a dangerous job...
i sometimes feel like i'm going to Die of Boredom. does that count?
my present job- i'm not really dodging bullets everyday (or ever). But, nursing definitely worries me- potential needle sticks, infection, contamination, etc... not to mention angryor abusive patients (but really, that can happen in any profession).

I also teach in a bad area. My school is safe, luckily, but the school below us (it's a complex with three schools) is out of control and some of those kids come up to our floor to start trouble.
I don't really feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood, unfortunately.

Re: Spinoff to your SO having a dangerous job...
I have a VERY dangerous job, i work with HIGHLY psychotic patients. They are delusional, usually off of their meds and I am on the team that usually goes intot he ommjunity to get them back to the hospital, or visit them in their home and it is little ol' me who is onthe crisis team and is usually "taking down" a highly psychotic patient to insure no one gets hurt (patient or standbyer). I hate my jb, but now that I have been promoted, I will have a more administrative job and get to pick which patients I want to to see and which ones get pawned off on the new grads

I'm a teacher in HS and never really considered it dangerous, but I guess it could be.

Re: Spinoff to your SO having a dangerous job...
My job duties changed a little while ago so it's not so bad now, but I used to have to travel all over the metro area and most times it was not to desirable areas. I'd be inside apartments, the projects, people's houses, or just on the street. Usually, I'd have someone else with me.
