Does your SO have a dangerous job?

How do you deal?

My DH is an Iron Worker and at first I was be a ball of nerves, waiting to hear from him at the end of the day.

I still worry, but not to that extent. I always make sure I say I love you and Be careful every morning.

DHs job is not dangerous per se. I mean anything can happen on the job, especially when there is a 4000 lb plus car hovering over your head. DHs best friend is a roofer....His job freaks me out...he works on commercial buildings

I guess it depends on what you think it dangerous.

For instance - my DH is a salesman - by all means that is not a dangerous job, but being on the road all day - is dangerous to me.

he job is potentially dangerous but he doesn't do dangerous work ... he is a project manager in construction and is on job sites all day.

My DH is retired from NYPD and I was a wreck every time he went to work.

Not really... Although, he's a psychologist in a school with some pretty rough kids. The security guard asked him if he could call him to help if there was a problem while he was in a building (lots of gang problems - last year the guard had to body check a girl with a knife).

So no, overall it's not dangerous, he has the potential to be in some dangerous situations.

DH's job is dangerous sometimes. Right now he's working in the subways and I don't like the idea of the third rail or the trains for that matter. He's an electrician and he's seen guys get electricuted pretty bad.

Mine is NYPD. I just got used to it after a while- and you just can't think about it all the time or you'll drive yourself nuts with worry.
My dad was NYPD too so I have experience dealing with it.

And nowadays, any job can be dangerous I guess- look at 9/11....

uhm, I guess he is. He's a CO in the city jail. So yes, something can happen there. They don't carry guns or anything. I try not to worry too much!

not as dangerous as a fdny or nypd
dh is dsny. and he has told me stories that when throwing out the gargabe a few people have been struck with needles, there was a shoot out once last year i think and a sanman got caught in it and he got shot.

Yes! My DH works in transformer maintenance in the Substations at ConEd.

Yes..my dh is an electrician. Some days he is just pulling pipe while other days he is working on live wires, walking on roofs or climbing around inside ceilings. I hate when he doesnt get enough sleep because he needs to focus on what he is doing so much.

Definitely not dangerous, unless of course they ever proved that theory that too much television gives you seizures (he's a master control operator for a major television network).

Mine is a Port Authority Police Officer @ JFK...Not a immediately dangerous as the NYPD or Suffolk Police but still with all the terror alerts ans stuff dangerous nonetheless...he still makes arrests and stuff...It's still hard for me though and scary. Godforbbid that any other terror stuff happens.

at first i thought no, but after hearing all that happens on the lirr, i'd say yes. he drives the trains.

Yes. He is pilot.
But he's a good one so I try not to worry much:)

His "day" job is not dangerous but he is a volunteer firefighter and in the beginning I used to have nightmares everytime he walked out the door to go to a house fire..I try not to think about it as much b/c I just make myself sick

I really never thought so...until 9/11. Now I worry every day. He worked in the WTC on that day and barely made it out alive. (I posted about this in the past so I won't go into details again).
He is in Finance, but still commutes every day on the LIRR and subway and works 2 blocks from Ground Zero. I pray every day that he comes home.

Michael is a sheet metal worker....he travles into NYC everyday and works on very high heights from the ground with no walls in some cases.

I always kiss him goodbye...wish him a good day...and tell him to be safe and careful.
