Spinoff.. What have been the most disappointing places you've traveled to?

I was going to say "least favorite" but "most disappointing" seems more politically correct.

For me:
Scandanavia (Finland, Sweden, Denmark), too expensive and boring, and the people were such downers.

Lisbon- I had such high hopes for a beautiful city and frankly, it was kind of ugly and depressing there.

Hong Kong - Least favorite Asian city. Maybe because it was so hot there I couldnt enjoy it.

Galveston, TX. It was cold and rainy the entire time I was there. I was there for work but we had plenty of time to enjoy the city and I really didnt enjoy it. The only thing nice about Galveston was the hotel we were in.

Re: Spinoff.. What have been the most disappointing places you've traveled to?

My overseas travel has all been very satisfying. Travel within the US has been hit or miss. I've been to some pretty crappy cities in this country for work over the past 10 years. Won't name names for fear of offending.

Melbalalala - We are going to Hong Kong next year. Too bad about the heat while you were there! Don't ever go to Bangkok in the spring if heat bothers you! Like stepping into a smoggy saunaChat Icon Great city thoughChat Icon

Harley - That's too bad about Galveston! It can be so nice when the weather is goodChat Icon

Bunny: thats what everyone has told me that Galveston is really nice. I guess we just hit it at a bad time of the year (we went in the month of February)

I've been to San Antonio in February and it was a bit chilly too (have a picture of me in a turtle neck) but it was a comfortable chilly. Even by the riverwalk .

Ive been DYING to go to Bangkok!! (along with singapore and Kuala Lumpur) but can never find decent airfare.

We were in Hong Kong in May. The heat was so exhausting. We stayed on the Kowloon side which Im really glad about, it was alot more interesting. Out of my "most disappointing" places it's the least disappointing if that makes any sense Chat Icon

It's too bad Thai Airways stopped that darn direct jfk-bkk flight. Fares were pretty good then. Hopefully when fuel prices go down so will the fares. Chat Icon

We will be staying on the Kowloon side as well! Glad it's as interesting as it seems. Which hotel did you stay in?

Would love to go to Kuala Lumpur too! We considered Malaysia but the travel time (over 24 hours) and prices (Chat Icon ) were just not good. Maybe next yearChat Icon

Re: Spinoff.. What have been the most disappointing places you've traveled to?

Key West. JMO but I was totally unimpressed. I had high hopes because so many people love it, but I was so disappointed. During the day it was one big tourist trap and at night just a bit sketchy. Again, no offense to people who like it, it just wasn't for me. The Upper Keys however, like Big Pine Key, were very pretty and much more relaxing.

Puerto Plata and St. Maarten. I enjoyed myself both places, but definitely wasn't impressed. I expected a lot more based on other people's experiences.

Germany- parts of it were very cool, but I couldn't take everyone walking around with scowls on. Maybe b/c I live in the South now, and I am used to people smiling and being sweet when they greet you, but I have never felt so unwelcome in Europe....

I didn't enjoy Italy. I thought the main cities were dirty and the men were so skeevy. I'm sure I'd love Tuscany or the Almafi Coast but I've been to Venice, Florence, Rome, and Naples and was really disappointed!

Re: Spinoff.. What have been the most disappointing places you've traveled to?

Honestly, the Alaskan cruise we went on was kind of disappointing. I truly believe it's because too many people talked it up before we went - how it was this AMAZING, WONDERFUL, FABULOUS, ONCE IN A LIFETIME kind of trip. And though we did like it and had a good time, it wasn't the legendary trip we'd been anticipating.

We were some of the only young adults around on the ship, it rained every single day, the "amazing" views of the landscape were blocked because of the clouds, and the two excursions we'd been looking forward to the most were cancelled. And I guess we're just not "cruise people", because we weren't crazy about the eating options or having such a strict itinerary. The way other people had talked about it, I know I stopped and thought to myself a few times, "I'm glad we're here, but am I missing something?" So all in all it was still pretty cool, but I do not think it was the trip to end all trips like we'd been led to believe.

And I was disappointed with El Paso, TX. Not a good touristy type place to stop on a road trip.

Warsaw. It was so bleak. I love visiting old communist places, but this was too much.

I loved Finland, but I did find it boring most of the time and I had a bad experience with the people I went with- camping for a week straight is just not me.

Honestly I wasn't impressed by the Grand Canyon. Not as much as DH was. Might have been because it was dreary and raining and the colors were very dull looking.

Providence, RI. OK, I wasn't expecting greatness, but I think it was the most boring place I've been. We left early & went to Salem, MA.

San Francisco. Nothing special, a lot of homeless. Outside of SF was nicer, but it rained the hotel time we were there, so I wasn't as in love with Sausalito as other people told me I would be.

Nashville. I was there on business, so maybe I didn't get a good feel for the area, but I was at the Opreyland, whihc is outside of the city, so it was a paint ot get there & then there wasn't much to do, especially alone, at night. The people were all very nice though.

Madrid - several of the other Spanish cities I went to were much more beautiful and interesting

Nice, France - just had a terrible time here overall. The group I was with got lost and NO ONE would help us at all. It was terrifying.

Nassau, Bahamas - way too touristy and kind of sketchy in spots

Re: Spinoff.. What have been the most disappointing places you've traveled to?

Nassau, Bahamas...I was so glad that we took a cruise there bc I could not wait to get back on the ship. To me, it was NOTHING like I expected.

San Juan, PR...DH & I had this as a port on our HM cruise & again, the two of us could not get back on the ship fast enough. To me, it was just very dirty & I didn't find anything fascinating about it.

Totally impressed with Tortola though! DH & I could have stayed there for weeks Chat Icon the water was absolutely gorgeous!
