Spinoff: What is your household's housing to income ratio?
After reading the post about how much to spend I googled national average and apparently the average % income spent on housing in NY was 41.5% Granted, some of those people are probably long in foreclosure but it's still staggering.
Source: Project America.org
What is your ratio, including your mortgage, taxes, homeowners (and PMI, if applicable)?
(Poll included for those who prefer anonymity)

Re: Spinoff: What is your household's housing to income ratio?
I'll start. Ours will be 22% at my current salary (hopefully about 21.3-21.5% with an imminent raise).
With childcare, though, we're at 37% But, that's not permanent so we just have to push through the next, oh, five years

Re: Spinoff: What is your household's housing to income ratio?
When Rob was working it was 17%.
Now that I am the sole salary it is 36%
This is JUST mortgage, taxes and insurance. I didn't include other household services (heating, etc..) That would be too depressing.

Re: Spinoff: What is your household's housing to income ratio?
If our refi goes though it will be 31% of just DH's salary. Now it is depressing to think about ....

Re: Spinoff: What is your household's housing to income ratio?
About 18% now- but I have gotten a few raises since we bought in 05 and DH got a second job that really boosted his salary.
Actually, I'm disgusted with myself/us for not saving more, though I only included mortgage, taxes, ins. I didn't include child care either, which is $1k a month.

I think that allllllllllll the time. We're paying $2k a month in child care for both boys. What did I do with that $2k every month??? We really blew a lot of $ b/c I don't have a darn thing to show for it.

Re: Spinoff: What is your household's housing to income ratio?
wow we are pretty high but we save a few hundred a month, enough so that we can afford to do renovations a little at a time. But i guess the majority save a lot more then that and have more of a cushion.

Re: Spinoff: What is your household's housing to income ratio?
32% of our gross yearly income (not including bonuses/any extras) goes to our mortgage (which includes taxes, PMI and Homeowners insurance)
It will be a lower % soon because DH is graduating from his apprenticeship and gets a pretty large pay raise and next year we will have the STAR discount, but our taxes will probably be raised and counteract that anyhow .
ETA: I just checked and we are at 47% of our NET income. Scary. . .somehow we have enough for all our bills with a tiny bit leftover.

Re: Spinoff: What is your household's housing to income ratio?
About 25% of DH's take-home pay. I stay home with the kids. Pre-kids it was barely 15% of our take-home pay.
