Spinoff: What movies are difficult to see but really good (thought not necessarily "important")
I saw Pan's Labyrinth the other night and I thought it was such a stunning, rich, wonderful film, but I also thought it was disturbing and difficult to watch at times.
Also, Pi and Requiem for a Dream were both amazing, but I saw them both in the theatre and never again. They're great, but I can't watch them again.
I also like the SAW movies. They're really good, but also pretty tough to watch. I like them better than standard horror filsm because it's all psychologicla and not at all supernatural, but that makes it more profoundly disturbing

Full Metal Jacket... I was on edge watching that, just never knowing when something disgusting was about to happen.

I may not be clear on the question. If you mean a good movie but disturbing, I would pick "The Woodsman" and "American History X"

Something that's in any way diffuclt to watch. Like the other thread, but they don't have to be important, just good.

I really thought the first Saw was a great movie - extremely creative and done really well. But disturbing.
I haven't come across many people who have seen Pan's Labrynth - I was disappointed I guess I was expecting more fantasy, less Spanish civil war....

Boys Don't Cry, although I am sure someone will classify it as important

I loved Pan's and Reqiuem. I like the Saw stories, but I thought they were poorly acted.
