Spinoff: Where do you go for apple/pumpkin picking?
We'd like a place we can go to during the week...
apple picking pumpkin picking
(doesn't have to be the same place)
is there any way to make a day out of it?
is it too early to go apple picking or is now the right time?

Thinking it might be a little early to go. We have plans to go on 10/3 and will be going to Seven Ponds Orchard in Water Mill. Going with SIL who went there last year and said it was great!

We go to Lewins Farm
We already went to Lewins Farms last weekend for apples. Don't think its too early. Not all of the varieties were ready yet but, there was enough.
However, I think it's too early to go pumpkin picking.
We make a day of it but, we go in the weekend and then we do the corn mazes, the petting zoos, the roasted corn, we bring a picinic at go to Palmar vineyard for a hayride and bluegrass music. Good times! Heck we even make a day of it just going pumpkin picking. We went apple picking last weekend and spent the whole day! We went to Palmar for a beatles band and lunch. Then we went to Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard and they had fresh strawberry shortcake and we went on the tour of the rescue horses. DS had a BLAST petting all the horses. They even had a 1 day old colt.

Re: Spinoff: Where do you go for apple/pumpkin picking?
We go to Lewin Farm.
They JUST started the apple picking.
We wait for mid October usually. When it's pumpkin time.
We go pumpkin picking first (we usually do in the moning at WPF). DH takes the day off during the week. We eat lunch (picnic) then go apple picking

Lewin has a website.
They are usually open during the week or you can just call to see if they are open.
They may close depending on the weather.

Hayley-funny you posted this because I was going to see if you wanted to come with us! I think we are going to Lewin Farms in Wading River since it is not too far from us.

Re: Spinoff: Where do you go for apple/pumpkin picking?
That's a great place. They have hay rides out to the orchard if it is too far for your kids to walk & there is FDR park nearby if you want to make a day of it.
The donuts they make there are excellent too. It does get pretty crowded on the weekends though.

Re: Spinoff: Where do you go for apple/pumpkin picking?
Based on recommendations on here, we're going to go to either Lewin's or Harbes this year. We're also going during the week since DH has off on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so I'll just take a day off from work to go.
We'll probably go the second week of October. Maybe the third? Don't know yet.

CALL FIRST!
We drove over an hour and a half there today and the part of Lewin's where you can pick apples was CLOSED!!! We were so upset

I would have a heart attack if I took a day off work and drove an hour and a half (that's how far it is for me) each way for it to be closed!!! I definitely will call.
We won't be going apple picking this year, only pumpkin picking... definitely want a photo op of DS in a pumpkin patch

I know, right? It took us maybe 1 hour, 40 minutes to get there. It was really upsetting! We ended up going to two wineries over there.... and buying pie at Briermere Farm.
