spinoff: Would you ever have a nanny

I know many of you have kids and careers and have babysitters.

But, if you had a lot of money, would you ever have a full time nanny?

I wouldn't. Princessrachel's thread spoke about Shana in Meet the Barkers. I thought it was awful that a nanny feeds her baby in the middle of the night. Shanna was making dinner one night for her and Travis, WHAT are the kids supposed to eat for dinner?

Even if I had all the money in the world, I still want to decorate around Christmas time with my kids, not hire decorators, put them to bed at night, walk them to their first day of school, etc....

What are your thoughts? I know, I ramble on sometimes.
ETA ' i would have one if I was really busy and working but to act act like a babysitter, not one to live with me and raise my kids.

Ok, I would have a nanny to watch my child during the day, yes. Like, when I am at work or need to run errands, but no, I would not have one that lived with me.

yes, my mommy Chat Icon
she'd be the only person I can trust to raise my children.. we already have an agreement, FH and I will make the big bux, she watches our kids. I was raised by my grandma, and it was great... I want my children to have that as well.

... sorry if it doesn't really answer your question... I would never have a full time nanny, I want to spend as much time as I can with my (future) kids.

I was a nanny for 4 years and I can tell you it was the best paying job ever. I loved the children and they loved me. They were in my wedding party as my flower girl and ring bearers as well. I would most definitely hire a nanny now bc of my own experience. i dont watch the show you are referring to but I dont think all nanny positions have to be exactly like the one you describe. I didnt become the parent but rather helped the parent. The parents still loved their children and were able to share many of the same experiences that other parents share. I think its tough to say yes or no about hiring a nanny because these days there are mostly working parents. I would definitely prefer a private nanny in my home rather then a daycare especially if i open up my own practice from my home.

A nanny yes for when I am working. I would never have a live in- no need, I want to raise my kids. but if my family couldnt watch the baby when I am at work then yes I would get a live out one. And to help when we vacation, def.

If being a full time SAHM was an option, then no. If I had to work and was able to afford a nanny (as opposed to a regular day care) then I would prefer that option, at least when the baby was very small. Later I'd probably want something that was pre-school oriented.

However, if we had the $$ for a nanny, we'd have the $$ for me to stay home, probably.

I would have a nanny for while I am working, not a live in.

Some of these stars are ridiculous and I don't understand why they even have kids. Plus, all Shana Barker does all day is sleep, so she needs a nanny. Travis does more parenting than she does.

I would have one, but I would still be raising my own kids and and they would not be with a nanny all the time...it would only be for a few hours here and there...plus a nanny is cheaper than a babysitter in some cases because you are providing them room and board...I also said yes because I feel that if a person is living with you, you can get a better feel of what kind of person they are, rather than a stranger coming in...imo

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but isn't that a babysitter? I had one friend that used to get so mad at people who acted like they were so rich who had babysitters but reffered to them as "nannies" - they didn't live with them and were only there during the day.

Nope. I had a nanny/babysitter while I was at work - not live in. But now I was faced with the situation where live in was really my only option and I opted not to and I stopped working as of this week. It was a difficult choice to give up my career but someone else living with me was just too close for comfort for me. But I have to say I seriously considered it. Even if I went the live in route - it would act as a babysitter/light cleaning. I would still do what I would have normally done when I had a daily babysitter just it would have been it would have allowed me more flexibility in my work days.

DH and I discussed this & we don't plan on having one, just because he has a flexible schedule and I will hopefully either be only PT or a SAHM so there most likely will not be a need for one...of course things could always change.

Absolutely. In fact, this would be our first choice of child-carer if we were to have kids.

I would have one to accompany me on vacations, stores etc. -not everyday. I want my kids asking for me in the middle of the night. It's bad enough when they're getting in trouble and they say they want Grandma.Chat Icon
