Spinoff...How many of you would use a mom you met on LIF for child care?
And what are some of the criteria you would be looking for? I'm curious to see and I wonder why there hasn't been more of a network established.

Re: Spinoff...How many of you would use a mom you met on LIF for child care?
The people I am close with from LIF, while trustworthy, have a lot of obligations of their own and they are not in a position to take in a child to care for. That is a big part of the reason that there has not been more of a network established.
To answer the question of whether I would use someone from here, if I did, it would have to be someone I have known here for a while, and I would still probably check references and I have a whole bunch of other criteria.

Re: Spinoff...How many of you would use a mom you met on LIF for child care?
I love the idea of using a mom from LIF. I love it because I would be able to see if our child rearing ideas 'match' by checking out some posts. You get a real 'feel' for people based on their ideas and reactions when they post. It establishes a pattern of thought that is hard to see when you are only interviewing someone once or twice.
But I would have to meet the person first - and more than once. Establishing a comfort level is absolutely critical to me.
The criteria I look for would be the same for any caregiver - I would want to be sure they were trustworthy, reliable and competent.

I agree. I would also be reluctant to use someone who posts very frequently during the time when she's watching my child. I would be worried about whether or not that person is dedicating enough time to my child.

Re: Spinoff...How many of you would use a mom you met on LIF for child care?
I voted maybe because like anyone else they would have to meet my criteria. As someone currently looking or someone to mind my son, a network would have been great and not sure how different it is from me advertising elsewhere. Either way they still need to meet what I personally am looking for. Unfortunately, as I am discovering, finding someone to watch your child can be very, very difficult, if you don't want to put them in a traditional daycare type of setting. I live out east in suffolk and after two advertisements still have not found anyone, it is depressing. If anyone knows someone, I am open to suggestions.

I know how you feel. I did find someone via Craigslist and did my own background checks.

I was about to suggest the same.

Maybe. Depends on the mom.
But I think there could be a lot of draw backs as well. Specifically this site and both of us posting on it. WHen i had questions or needed advice. Kinda hard to come on here and ask it

To be quite honest, I probably wouldn't only because I've found an actual daycare center to be less expensive than what some of the ladies on here think is fair. With that said, as a "night out" babysitter I probably would (not that I even go out!)

Re: Spinoff...How many of you would use a mom you met on LIF for child care?
Totally depends on the mom!
There are some I would, Juliet, is DS Godmother and I would trust her with my son. (Jules- not looking to you for babysitting- don't worry ) Although we knew e/o long before the site.....
Like anything else, it depends on the person.

Long term child care arrangements probably not..I'd feel like it was a conflict of interest of sorts...for an occassional night out or a day here and there I most definitely would.

Re: Spinoff...How many of you would use a mom you met on LIF for child care?
Having an in-home child care isn't my choice for my kids. I always preferred a structured daycare setting.
To have a one-night babysitting thing every so often, yes I would. It would be someone that I had similar parenting style & would have to know really well off the boards.
