Sportsmen kennel in Manorville?
Anyone heard of them or gotten a pet from them?

Steer clear, they are not breeders, they are brokers!!! They DON'T care about the dogs in the least bit.
My husband bought an Alaskan Malumute from them and when he brought her to the vet for her first visit a couple of days later he found out she was VERY sick. The poor dog was on meds for months and when my husband called the guy he delt with there he told him "well, just bring the dog back or if she dies we'll give you a new one". 
"My husband's response was, if this dog dies, you DON'T want me to come down there." 
Please, whatever you do, DO NOT go to that place for a puppy, they're BAD news.
I would, however, recommend going to a shelter. If you're in that area, you could go to Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. They're right by the Tanger Outlets.

Thanks! I had a bad feeling about that place. It seemed like they had one of every breed there.
Problem is that I can not seem to find a dog that is the right fit for us at the shelters. All we seem to find are hound mixes, pit mixes, or shepherd mixes...and the dogs are not appropriate for us, our lifestyle, or our living space. I had my heart set on a havanese, but my DH has been wishy-washy.

As for finding the right pup, have you tried Petfinder.com?
Also, check the AKC website for local Havanese breeders.
What kind of breed is your DH leaning towards?

Basically he is into anything he thinks is "cool", which is NOT how you pick out a dog.
Thank you for that link on petfinder.com. I already e-mailed the organization about one of the pups on there.

They are NOT breeders.
Be VERY weary of ANY "breeder" that has more than 2 - 3 breeds AT THE MOST. Also, any "breeder" that ALWAYS has puppies available is NOT a reputable breeder.
Go to Little Shelter. They are in Huntington and they are very careful to consider all of your needs when placing a dog in a forever home. They have some dogs on their website, but they have many more on premise. Also, they take time to make sure their adoptables are ready to go to a new home.
