spousal support (and kids) while dieting...
I seriously need to lose about 30 pounds. I let myself go in the past year and I am 10 lbs heavier now that when I was last year at this time, having just given birth to my DD!!
My goal is 10 lbs by my birthday (July 17th). That's about 6 weeks. And then go from there.
Here's my trouble.... My DH will not diet, although he will support me (and he has!). And I have a 3-year old and a 1-year old.
How do you ladies do it when you have a family you need to feed each day? I am more than content eating a WW or LC for dinner with a side salad, but I still need to cook dinner for DH and the kids. Anyone in the same situation? Can you give me advice on how to do it all??
Thanks, I need all the help I can get.

I'm definately having the same problem. Plus I've been going through a kinda stressful situation, so I'll eat the kids pretzels or goldfish or whatever. It's not good, I haven't figured out yet what to do.

Trish this is my biggest struggle...
DH (who needs to diet!) refuses to eat right- and its so hard for me to have the junk in the house!
I join WW and "quit" often- I just rejoined last week- and am hoping this time will do the trick...
Here are a few things Im doing/plan to do- to help make the situation a little easier...
All snacks are 100 calorie snacks- DH and DS can eat them- if one snack bag isnt enough, they help themselves to another- but at least Im not tempted by things they arent good for me...
I cook 2 meals every night- one for them and one for me- this totally sux... And for some meals I join them (just eat a tiny portion)
I stopped frying my chicken cutlets... I use shake and bake and bake them in the oven- its healthier for them- and I can eat small thin sliced cutlets for 4 points!
I also use all whole wheat pasta when making sauce- again healthier for them (you cant taste the difference) and something I can eat- for a decent amount of points...
DS eats left overs for lunch ALL the time- so Im not really cooking him lunch- Just heating it up...
And Im at work when he eats breakfast... So im fine in that category...
Now going out to eat and to families houses are def. a challenge- but I try to eat really light those days and leave my flex points for the weekend...
HTH
ETA- Lucky for me DS is obsessed with fruit- so him and I often snack together on strawberries, watermelon, and cantoloupe!

Re: spousal support (and kids) while dieting...
both DH and I are on WW... we cook alot from their cookbooks...honestly, a lot of the food is delicious and I would eat it even if we werent on WW... it is just about the portion control and measuring what you eat... no need to cook two seperate meals...

Why do you need to cook two separate meals? Why not just eat a controlled portion of what they're having or just not eating the "bad" parts of the meal? Seems like so much less work!

Re: spousal support (and kids) while dieting...
Trish, I hear ya! I have decided that food is the one place in my life where it HAS TO BE all about me and my needs. All food in my house (except for parties and very special treats) is WW friendly. I cook dinner almost every night, All meals are low carb and/or low fat. If Patrick doesn't want to follow WW (which is doesn't!) he just eats double portions. The boys pretty much eat anything I give them, so that part is easy. If you want some recipe ideas to try, let me know. I've lost 21 pounds since January 20th, and I have at the VERY least, 10 to go.

Re: spousal support (and kids) while dieting...
Thank you all!!!
Marissa, those are great suggestions... I am making baked chicken cutlets tonight for dinner.. With rice and veggies, but I will skip the rice!
Jenn! You go girl! That is great! I would be more than happy to lose 20 by the end of the summer.... I wish I started sooner, but life moves at a warp speed and I recently started to get depressed about my wieght after seeing how I look in pictures. The sad thing is, if I stand in front of a mirror and see myself get dressed, I don't think I look that bad. then I see a picture and I am mortified. and the scale doesn't lie. I calculated my BMI online and it told me it was 29.5 - and a 30+ is obese.
The past few nights I have cooked a regular meal and ate a tiny bit. The portion size is what kills me. I've always been a HUGE eater and never gained, so now this is all new to me to learn portion control. And I am always hungry. It's been a week and I still crave food all day long. If I go out and keep busy, I swear my stomach growls at me the whole time!
My trouble is I still have to cook even if I am having a WW meal with salad. My kids need to eat too, and it doesn't help when DH's favorite meals are pasta related, i.e., lasagna, baked ziti, bolognese sauce, etc. And he loves Mexican too, burittos, fajita's etc.
I am glad to have support though. So far, calorie wise per day I am doing great. I just need to pick up and exercise more and I'll be on my way.
