SPR: I have a friend with breast cancer...
and she'll be having a double-mastectomy on 4/1. Her kids and mine go to school together. We walk to and from school together and have had a few playdates. I guess she's sort of my closest "school-mom" friend.
Anyway, my DH and I wanted to give her something/do something for her, but we're not sure what. I am definitely going to offer to bring the kids home from school and offer babysitting, but I know she has a strong family support system and I'm unsure if she'll take me up on that.
Would a gift certificate to a restaurant so she and her DH could celebrate her good health be appropriate? What are some other options?
Thanks so much for any ideas!

Definitely love the gift certificate idea! Also maybe for places they can do take-out from, so they can eat in the comfort of home.
Not sure how crazy you want to go, but also like the idea of a spa g.c.. for her for when she's feeling like she wants/needs a pick-me-up. For a facial or manicure, etc.

They often follow up the mastectomy w/ chemo after; do you know if she'll be getting that? That would change my answer.
I think I'd make food for the kids at least to send to her home--even if she doesn't feel up to eating, she won't need to worry about feeding them.

What about a pajama-gram? When my XSIL was going through chemo, I sent her these and she liked them.

Re: SPR: I have a friend with breast cancer...
My friend is/was going thru the same thing. Meals, meals meals! She was not up to cooking so pulling stuff out of the freezer was a godsend. Also, her son was small during the thick of things (less than 6 months) so she needed help there. I bought him formula pretty much everytime I got for my DS because they were strapped financially. She also asked for company - I think it helped keep her mind off of everything. Everyone is different though so try to feel her out (ie.my mom had same thing and never wanted to talk about it)

Either make food for them, of a gift certificate to someplace that will deliver dinner or you can pick up a dinner.

I think these are all great suggestions. A "take her mind off things basket" like books magazines, crosswords, travel games. 2 weeks worth of meals-maybe you can even start a meal train at school, babysitting, calling her when you go to the grocery store to see if she needs anything, as someone else mentioned GC to get her nails done. You are a very good friend
