Spring break travel
Now that travel restrictions domestically are lifted in NY....did anyone go away? How was it? Trying to decide if it’s worth spending $$ or if it’s not enjoyable due to other states restrictions.

Re: Spring break travel
We did not because we are following guidelines and recommendations and we plan travel too far in advance to have planned this break, but we are hoping to travel by car over the next break. Interested to hear others' responses.

Spring break travel
Do you think there will be a surge in cases since the state to state quarantine restrictions have been lifted?

Re: Spring break travel
I wanted to but by the time they announced the restriction would be lifted in regards to quarantine as of 4/1, the hotels were astronomically high or all sold out. I was super disappointed.

Re: Spring break travel
My brother's family went to Florida. They said the airports were absolutely insane. My brother is a pilot so he's in the airports all the time but he said between the amount of people combined with the attempted social distancing made it seem so packed. They all recently had Covid so they are pretty comfortable with the anitbody factor but my SIL said that she would have left if not for that. She said it was scary packed. I guess we will see what happens with the numbers now.

Re: Spring break travel
No interest in going away just yet, especially flying. On top of that, anyone who went away over spring break would not be allowed back to school until they quarantined for a week after coming back. Who wants to do that?

You don't have to do that anymore in NY...
I looked into it but the prices were insane by the time they announced that the travel quarantine was going to be over.

Spring break travel
I'm not local anymore but cases are still high in my state. We went camping to a local lake so we were able to "get away" but still able to stay away from people.

You have to do it as per my school district. That was their own rule for anyone who traveled over spring break.

I should have clarified. That is our school district rule, not the state.

That makes sense.
I'm curious to see what will happen this week and next - the cases in our town are already really high just from things people are doing around town - take into account all of the traveling and gathering that was done - I don't know if we'll be going back full time in 2 weeks as planned.

Isn’t it just advised and not required? I think that is what most schools are saying for domestic travel in NY.

Our district asked that anyone who traveled anywhere to stay home the following week as a safety precaution.

Could that be for International travel? I know they are requiring it then.

Any travel. They want to err on the side of caution.

I thought all NY schools were following the same guidelines but I guess not :)

I'm not in NY and schools are free to institute their own policies as they see fit.
ETA - They polled parents to see what they wanted. Everyone stay home an additional week after spring break or just those who traveled over spring break.

Spring break travel
My children's school, as well as the school I teach in, is requiring 10 quarantine after all travel- including domestic.

In NY - schools can institute travel quarantines/recommendations too. Ours adopted the DOH guidance so people aren't required to quarantine. It seems though that most who traveled booked early so they have been home a few days already (as if they were going to have to quarantine before returning).

Re: Spring break travel
We went to St. Thomas. It was great and it's considered domestic so no quarantine is required. We have traveled extensively throughout the pandemic with no issues. When we finally did get covid it had absolutely nothing to do with travel. I would love to know the statistics of people who have actually gotten covid because they traveled.
Also, it's nice to get out of the Northeast and see that other parts of the world are operating just fine.

Re: Spring break travel
On this thread and IRL I keep hearing people say we will have to see what happens if cases spike. Just remember the numbers you see are the cases confirmed by a test - which means, the adults or child with covid went and got tested. From what I am hearing many are not doing this anymore. Especially high school age kids who play sports at a competitive level. There is a whole group on Facebook preaching the message - if your child is sick just keep them home. Don’t test. So keep that in mind if you are making decisions based on numbers.

Re: Spring break travel
It's actually hilarious because there was a thread on here about the American Dream Mall and how people went over break and it was beyond packed and nobody was wearing masks or at least not correctly.
So you can go there over break and go right back to school the next day no issues? But fly to Florida or go to a beach house in the Carolinas and some schools still make you stay home against new state regulations?
Hilarious.
Nothing makes sense anymore. It's like bizzaro world.

I've felt this way for awhile... You couldn't do a less risky vacation in certain states but, you could go to a crowded destination in the tri state area...
