Squid Game--Anyone watching

Squid Game is currently Netflix's most-watched show in 90 countries (including the UK), and the streaming service announced today that it is on track to become its most popular series of all time, meaning it would dethrone current champion Bridgerton (watched by a whopping 82m accounts).

It's very dark. Not going to attach the entire article as there are spoilers:

Squid Game, the grim but intriguing Korean series about a murderous tournament of children's games.

Some are claiming that Squid Game is suspiciously similar to a 2014 Japanese film, As The Gods Will, directed by Takashi Miike. That film itself is based on Japanese manga. It's also about a death tournament using childhood games, and seems to have some very similar scenes, including a doll that spins around and tries to catch players moving.

I haven't seen it yet but I added it to my list a few days ago when I heard so many people talking about it.

Yeah my husband and youngest watched it and liked it. I saw and heard snippets so didn't get the whole story.

My 12 year old had heard of it b/c there are Roblox games (already - of course) so we watched the first episode last night. I'm just shocked that he was willing to sit there reading subtitles. :D

Right? To me it is a distraction when trying to watch a movie or any show at that point to follow them and what is going on at the same time.

I would rather have the subtitles than to have it dubbed. I'm sure people in other countries are used to dubbed shows/movies - but it's off-putting to me b/c their mouths don't move the same and their voices don't sound right. I just have to be in the right mood to watch something with subtitles.

I meant in my original comment that I'm surprised my kid was so interested in watching the show that he dealt with subtitles. He likes reading, generally, but he's also the type to watch TV while playing games.

I hate dubbed stuff! They have that here and it’s annoying. Plus the people who do the dubbing are famous, too. People often say if the hear the real actor’s voice, Tom Cruise for example, they get confused, lol.

Is this show gory? Or is it just dark? I don’t mind dark things, but gory stuff I can’t stand.

I've only seen the first episode and I was ok with my 12 yo watching. There's violence, but it's not gory.

My 12 year old started watching too for same reason. Is it ok for them? I heard it's pretty gory and there's sex and drug scenes.

I would see if there are reviews like they do for movies that tell you if it is age appropriate and what to look for to see if your child is mature enough to watch.

I didn't really watch but saw many scenes and found it to be violent (deaths) and heard there are 2 sex scenes.

I told him that as soon as it's inappropriate, I was turning it off. We've only seen the first episode so far and the violence wasn't gory - just a bunch of people getting shot and some random weird parts (like a dead guy getting stepped on).

I watched all the episodes with my mouth open! Chat Icon Chat Icon. It’s pretty intense and I wouldn’t recommended it for children.

U don’t like blood right? If that’s the case, u might not like it. There’s a lot of it especially on the first episode.

Yikes! They already saw episode one and some of 2 before I realized it's inappropriate. LOL

Squid Game--Anyone watching

We’ve been watching. I would not let a child watch it. It has a lot of very adult content IMO.

My 12 yo son and I watched the first 2 episodes last week and now that my son is with his dad - his dad said no. I guess my radar is off on what's appropriate b/c my son seemed fine about it all and I thought the death in the first episode wasn't "gory".

Can't. Stop. Watching.

It's very addictive and honestly, A LOT better than I really expected. There is interesting character development and the plot is very intriguing. We're up to episode 6!
