st catherines vs stonybrook
someone told me last night that I shouldnt go to st catherines bc there are no private birthing rooms and stonybrook has them...is this the case? I am really up in the air between the 2.

I would go to Stonybrook because it is a better hospital-if you needed a neonatal there is an excellent one there

Re: st catherines vs stonybrook
Do you get to decide or does your Dr tell you where to go. When I had a choice of two hospitals my DR told me where to go when I called to say I was in labor.
Plus the private rooms at Stonybrook are usually for c-sections

At Stony Brook all the post-partum rooms are private. As far as I know it's the only LI hospital to have all private rooms. I'm really happy about that!

Re: st catherines vs stonybrook
Paulette-Contemporary Womens Care doesn't let you choose. They have priviledges at Stonybrook(just in case they need it) but almost all of their births are done at St. Catherines( this is what Paone told me). I was pretty happy with St. Catherines. The only 2 complaints are a only 1 shower outside the room, down the hall & roomates. I had 4 beds in my room and it was only myself and one other girl who kept her curtain shut the whole time. It's pretty quiet there so you should be ok. BTW St Catherines just added a Neonatal Unit recently so the are equipped for emergencies. I'm not saying Stonybrook is a bad hospital but they have been in the news lately for poor neonatal care. Newsday had a whole spread on it 2 weeks ago. I know women who delivered at both and were very happy....

I am using the Stonybrook Midwives so I will be at Stonybrook. My mom's friend is also a post partum nurse at Stonybrook so I feel like I will be looked after when I am there.

Re: st catherines vs stonybrook
I have to say, I had a pretty good experience at St. Catherine's. I wouldn't worry. Plus, I had the corner room when I had Ava and it has it's own shower and is a beautiful room, so you never know, you could always end up in there

LMAO Rachel - that was the room I had with my Ava
I had a great experience both times although both times I got a room with a shower in it which was nice.
Be bold Paulette - ask for a room with a shower in it. I did after I had Jack but I was super nice to the nurse before I asked
