St. Pete, FL vacation review
DH, DS (21 months) and I went to Florida for a vacation. We stayed at the Tradewinds Grand Island Resort and Spa. The hotel was fantastic. It is perfect for families. We had a court yard room. The beds are super comfortable. Everything was really clean. We had a fridge, microwave, utensils and dinette set in our room. The resort has 7 pools, 5 resturants, mini golf, big chess pieces, a 4 story inflatable water slide, trampolines, tennis courts, personal beach cabanas, paddle boats, hammocks, jungle gyms, a pirate show and a large person in an stuffed animal costume for the kids. The hotel is right on the Gulf of Mexico. You have no obstructions between you and the water. The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating. I loved the hotel and if we are back in St. Pete I would stay there again.
There are tons of excellent restarants within walking distance of the hotel. I am 5 months PG and we could easily walk to them. There is fantastic seafood, thai, cuban and italian within a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
We went to the Tampa Aquarium. It is great - so many different kinds of fish to see. They have a children's water park at the aquarium so bring bathing suits, towels, and swim diapers for the little ones. I think it is good for kids up to age 10. They have a huge pirate ship with water cannons, smaller water things for little ones and a sand box. DS wanted to spend hours there - we spent 2 hours in the water park alone. He loved it.
We also went to Busch Gardens. There is a LOT to do with a small child so it is really worth going. We saw the animals (unfortunately the chimp area was closed). We rode on the train. We also went to the children's park within the main park. Again there is a great water park there too, so brink bathing suits, towels, and a swim diaper.
We did a lot of relaxing at the hotel and the beach. We were there for 5 days and I think it was the perfect amount of time.
The tampa airport - continetal has a great indor play area for small children. The only unfortunate thing that happened was that the airline broke our peg perego stroller on the way home. Other than that we had a fantastic vacation. The airlines will not replace broken strollers - so that is really upsetting.

OMG I love the Tradewinds Grand! My parents are time share holders in the Breckinridge, is such a lovely hotel! We went there for about six years on the trot. Love it! Glad you enjoyed it!
