Stair gates... what would work best?
We are closing soon and our contractor agreed to hang our gates for us if we give them to him on Tuesday. So I have to get moving on this...
What do you think would work best on these two spots? Can you show me your stair gates?
Am I better to put the gate on the steps at the bottom or just gate off the little landing at the bottom before the steps instead? Also if I put it on the steps you can see there is a molding on the wall side of the steps.
Our current home has a door at the bottom and we never found one that fit right at the top - so I need to get it right this time.
Here are two pictures of the top and bottom of the stairs.
bottom of the steps (ignore the carpet)

Re: Stair gates... what would work best?
A pass through gate definitely, preferably one that you can open with one hand. The one I use to have was adjustable so the bottom could be narrower than the top, which I also needed to accommodate my moulding. For the bottom, having the gate not on the steps would probably be easier, esp when you are coming down but would probably look nicer on the steps. For the bottom, I never wall mounted mine, just screwed them in till the tension was strong (I had walls on both sides) For the top, obviously screw them in and def another pass though. I don't have any pics since my kids are past the age now.

Kidco configure gates.
you can mount to the walls, and bend them around corners. opening can be arranged based on the extension pieces you use. the yhave 24 inch extensions and 12 inch extensions, so you can make it whatever size you need. i have it at hte top of my stairs because i have wrought iron, and no way to mount to the railing, so we go from one wall, do a 90* turn and mount to the side wall around the railing.

Thanks Amy!!! Will they work though at the bottom of the stairs? And you say curve? Can I attach them to my railing?

Check out this link. Look at all the pics. Looks like it could do whatever you want.

Re: Stair gates... what would work best?
we have the same situation at the top of our stairs and we actually have one of the hearth gates attached to the wall and then bent around the banister.. as for downstairs, we actually have him gated out of the area

won't need to attach to the railing if you don't want to. they're made to go around railings etc, so you can mount directly to the wall. if there is a wall you can attach to on the side of hte stairs, you'll be fine. you literally are gating around the staircase. and the atachment pieces are in swivel hinges, so the gate can turn pretty sharply away from the wall. hard to explain, but you can do almost anything with them.

this is the hearth gate, but the only difference, its black instead of white. check the small pictures on the page. they're show how the gate can be adjusted as you want it.
mine is mounted to the walls at hte top of the stairs. although a falt banister would work too. but for me it had to be the walls, banister wasn't an option being metal.
