Started feeding DC cereal but have a couple of ???

DC does really well opening his mouth and swallowing the cereal but he is obsessed with sticking his hands in his mouth when I'm trying to feed him and getting it ALL over the place (which I know is normal). But I just feel like he's not getting as much as he should b/c he takes it out of his mouth when he chews on his hands. Did your DC's do this when they started eating? Is there anything I can do to get him to stop sticking his hands in his mouth (probably a stupid question being he is a baby and that's what they do). Maybe he is getting bored with the plain cereal and I should start him on fruits and veggies?

DD would try to put her hands in her mouth in the begining... She would get past me the first few times, but now I kindof hold her hands.. I don't do it till she seems to be putting them towards her mouth. Maybe you want to add fruits to the cereal. DD has had fruits for awhile and we just added veggies this week she will be 5 months next Friday
