Starting Solid food question??

Ok so I started Riley out last week on Oatmeal. Did she really get any down her throat not sure alot of it was on her face and hands and of course she wants to suck her thumb also!!
I have been trying for over a week now she is 5 months.

My question now when can I start her on like pears to try? I know they say wait but did you just try to see if you child liked it or had a reaction to it? She take pear juice everyday for her pooping issues so I can't see her having not agree with her. I was thinking about mixing the oatmeal and pear together.

Sorry for rambling and being all over the place. I guess my real question is did you follow the Dr orders or did you do your own thing??

We started solids, fruits/veggies at 4 months. Dr. recommended at 4 months as well.

we are following what the doctor said to do. we're not starting until she is 6 months old.

My ped acted when I said I was giving Ann rice/oatmeal at her four month appt (she was 18 weeks). I had been doing it a few weeks, not that I was making her eat, I was just trying to get her used to the idea.

But in the same breath he told me should be eating solids regularly by her next (6 month) appt so I took it as he thought I started early but not to wait until 6 months to start.

Ann is 20 weeks today and this weekend we are moving on to sweet potato (made/froze it last night) - I want her eating some "Thanksgiving" food by turkey day!
