starting the pediatrician search, need recommendations
Any recommendations for pediatricians? Preferably on the North Shore, Nassau county. I live in Huntington but all my other docs are in Nassau. So no further than Huntington. If it matters, I will be delivering at North Shore Manhasset. Thank you. Renee

Re: starting the pediatrician search
I have a solo ped that I use and like in Manhasset right up the road from NSUH Manhasset. I got his name from two OBs out here and from a few mommy friends - there are a few girls on here who use him. I like that he doesn't use a service so if you call when the office is closed he answers. He has Sat hours as well.
FM if you want his info.

Re: starting the pediatrician search, need recommendations
I'm also delivering at NSUH in Manhasset so I chose Dr. Welles at 410 Lakeville Rd. to see the baby in the hospital. I was also recommended to Dr. LaSalla at 450 Plandome. I only chose Dr. Welles b/c I know someone that takes their kids to see him.
ETA: I also live in the Huntington area so I'm in the process of choosing a pediatrician in the area to see the baby for all other visits. I'm not driving all the way out to NHP for visits!

I was just thinking....does it make more sense to find a doctor closer to home?

None of the doctors I met with around Huntington have privlidges at NSUH so that is why I chose a doc by the hospital and am choosing one by home. When I went on the hospital tour they said you could have the peds resident see the baby but when I asked my OB about that he said I should really have an attending evaluate and discharge the baby.
Once I get home I'll just have the baby's records transferred to the doc I choose by home.

Re: starting the pediatrician search, need recommendations
If you live further out on the island you might want to consider finding a ped closer to you - b.c you won't want a long drive if your DC is sick and if they have privileges at a hospital a distance from you - if your child has to go to the hospital it helps if your ped is affiliated with one closer to you otherwise you will get which ever ped they give you at the hospital or have a long drive to go to the hospital they are affiliated with.
As far as when the baby is born it is fine if your ped isn't affiliated with the hospital b.c they will be seen by a ped who is on call then you will bring the baby to see his/her own ped within a day or two from being discharged from the hospital.
