Starting to become concerned

So this is my story... I'm going to be 20 weeks on Friday and offically DOWN 4lbs from my start weight. I've thrown up only once and had very minimal m/s. The Dr brushed it off like it was no big deal and told me it was normal. I felt like if I had just told her I sh!t out a squirrel she would have told me that was normal too.Chat Icon
I have since left this Dr and I see the new one next week.

My question is does a 4lbs loss for no reason or another sound normal @ 20wks?

Re: Starting to become concerned

I've heard its not uncommon for overweight women to loss weight or not gain much. I don't know if that applies to you or not, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Re: Starting to become concerned

i actually lost 4 lbs in the beginning i had no MS but i stopped eating alot of crap and drinking soda...i am 22 weeks and only have gained 5 lbs and i was worried to about weight but the doctor said as long as your baby is fine than weight doesnt really matter its not an issue which i thought it was. They told me that some people lose weight with the baby taking all nutrients etc which i thought was fishy to but i would def get a second opinion

I have heard the same. I am nowhere near 20w, but I did lose also. Eating small meals throughout the day seems to have possibly boosted my metabolism, and I also stopped drinking which made a difference. Maybe either of these things apply to you as well?

Re: Starting to become concerned

My last appointment I had lost 1 lb, and told the nurse I couldn't have done that even if I tried. The doctor told me since I wasn't starting out as a small person, they weren't concerned.

I don't think 4 lbs is too much, if you had lost 10/15 lbs, I think there might be more reason for concern.

I am sure everything is ok! Chat Icon

Re: Starting to become concerned

I don't think it's a big deal at all. I don't remember my exact stats, but I gained very, very little the entire 1st and most of the 2nd trimester - and then all heck broke loose at the halfway mark of the pregnancy. Now I am 37 weeks and up 46 pounds.

I had no M/S at all, and lost some weight here and there. But I always put it back on.

Re: Starting to become concerned

thanks girls... I'm definitley not overweight so thats not the problem. I guess my main concern is that I haven't gained anything at this point. I was up 10lbs at this point with DD and I was dealthly sick with her.

I only gained 2.5 lbs during my pregnancy, I was down 7 lbs at my 20 week from my 12 week. Its normal, don't be too concerned.

Remember, every pregnancy is different. My mom, with me gained 25 pds, my brother 15, and my sister 52.

Re: Starting to become concerned

My friend lost weight when she was pregnant with her son. I think she barely gained 10 pounds throughout the entire pregnancy and he was born healthy. She had no m/s either.
