Starting to sleep through the night, have ?????

So Gavin slept on Sunday from 9:30PM to 5:00AM Chat Icon with a little wimpering around 3AM which I let him do and he fell back to sleep. I didn't even do it on purpose, I just waited for him to cry and when he did it was 5!

So last night I was hoping to have a repeat. He went to bed at 8:30PM and woke a little around 1 and fell back to sleep.
Then he was up at 6 and I was unsure as to wether I should get him or have him fuss and fall back to sleep.
He started crying so I picked him up and gave him his bottle, and he watched his mobile for about an hour after that, still awake.

So, obviously when he's crying I get him, but how does this whole sleeping through the night thing work?
Should I be doing something else?

TIA!

You're doing it just right. Unless he's really crying, I would continue letting him fuss on his own. And if he's able to stay in his crib awake for a while then let him.

I agree. And it started like this for me early last week with DS but then the past 3 nights, he did 11pm - 7 or 8am so I guess it's a gradual thing?

Same with DS he sleeps from 8pm-4am or 5am then he is up at 7:30am gets BOTTLE AT 8AM HE DOES THIS FOR 2-3NIGHTS THEN Falls back on his old schedule of getting up at 2am then 5am for a day or two. But I am sure after a few more Weeks he will lose the 2am feeding

I think that no matter what, there will always be a 6-7am bottle

And then he's up from there usually and I have to put the mobile on and pray he's content so I can catch a few more zzzz's

How old are your dc when they started sleeping so long? Mine are 3 months and they sleep only 6 hours and they are up for another bottle....I would love to get a little more time out of them.

At 6 months Lucas will have a few nights where he sleeps 7:30 pm to 4am and with a quick bottle will go back down until 6am when we wake him to get ready.

Then there are nights where he goes down at 7:30pm, wakes at 1:30 for a quick bottle or sometimes just to be held (we always try that first) and wakes again at 4am or 5am.

Then there are nights where he wakes every 3 - 4 hours to eat.

He likes to keep us on our toes...so he mixes it up a lot. Chat Icon Chat Icon

A while ago he did a week where he slept through the night and we were so excited to be at that point....now we are back to praying for it. I think someone had once said that up until the first year there really is no predictability - not impossible of course because some babies really are great night sleepers - but more often than not it seems that just when they seem to be developing a routine something changes for the first year or so.

Re: Starting to sleep through the night, have ?????

For those asking/answering about what age a baby sleeps through the night, can I ask how much a baby weighed and how much he/she was eating when they slept through the night? My baby sometimes goes 5 hours or more but I do not think he will stretch it for longer than that, as he only gets a little over 3oz of formula at a feeding and weighs a little less than 8lbs. He is 9wks old but was a preemie and his age is adjusted to 5weeks.
