Stay at Home Dad's Group?
Hello, My husband is a stay at home dad of 14 month old twins. He is getting bored of his weekly run to Target with the kids and he would never attend an activity geared towards mommies. I was wondering if anyone knows of any stay at home dad's group? There are so many activities for stay at home moms and none for dads. Thank you

Stay at Home Dad's Group?
What about trying library classes? The classes I go to have all kinds of caregivers with toddlers including moms, dads, grandparents, babysitters, etc. Maybe he would meet some other dads in your area with similar aged kids. If not, it's at least another way to get out of the house for a while!

This cracks me up. Not many will say god bless the mothers for being able to take care of the twins while dad works all day. But always the dads get huge praise when they stay home.
OP I would check out the library, Gymboree, My Gym, Little Gym, Barnes & Noble, etc. Meetup might have a group.

Re: Stay at Home Dad's Group?
I'm a SAHM and I would tell him to check out the "mommy and me" classes anyway. The ones I take my son to have all kinds of caregivers that take the kids- moms, dads, nanny, grandparents. ( I was just talking to my friend about this. She was feeling down about not being a SAHM and not being able to take her kids to this stuff during the day. I told her you would be surprised that its not all SAHMs there) I don't think he would feel too "odd". I think most of them like My Gym, Little Gym, etc offer a free trial class anyway- so he really has nothing to loose by taking them once and seeing how he feels about it. The library free storytimes are also the same way. a big mix of moms, dads, grandparents... and again free, so he has nothing to loose! I think he just needs to get out there and give them a try

My DH is a SAHD. He is not part of any SAHD groups. He just takes the kids to various playgrounds, stores (Home Depot, mall, Target, food shopping). He rotates where he takes the kids. He couldn't deal w/ hanging out w SAHMs either. Too many judgey looks and comments.

I've been taking my DD to Mommy and Me type classes for 2.5 years and there are always dads there, as well as nannies, grandmas, etc. I would still check one of those out.

Did you check out any Town programs? Babylon has a parent/tot program for infants through age 2. My mom & dad used to take my older son & it was a mix of moms, dads & grandparents. It was mostly open play, but they also did circle, craft & snack times.
Also, like other posters mentioned, check out your library. I work at one & used to take my son to a lot of programs here and you always see dads & grandparents as well. It's a good healthy mix of people.
I also second the Sunrise mall since it's a softplay & it's not too big. During the work/school day it's pretty easy to watch 2 kids together. They also have the koi pond and a few kiddie rides next to it that the boys love.
I haven't been to one, but I know that some Barnes & Nobles do free story times - that might be worth checking out.

Re: Stay at Home Dad's Group?
We live in Levittown. Unfortunately, the twins are not walking yet so that is another obstacle.

Re: Stay at Home Dad's Group?
he should try going to the library classes. we attend a play hooray class weekly at our library and there are tons of dads that bring their babies. there are grandparents also that bring their grandkids. its not all just moms these days. he should go! it would be great for him and the babies. There are sets of twins in the group too.

My dh stays home during the day while I'm at work & then he works at night. He goes to the free library classes geared toward ds' age group. He also takes him for walks, goes to the park & sometimes the open gym portion of gymboree (not the classes, just the open play). He loves getting out of the house and doing fun stuff with ds.. never minds if he happens to be the only dad somewhere.
