Stefanie...
I know you had posted that you wore a girdle for a few weeks after your delivery...do you feel it helped? I've been told to do that to and just wanted to see what you thought and what kind you wore....TIA!

Re: Stefanie...
Hey not to hijack this thread but I wore a post partum belt and took before and after pictures if you want to see if it worked or not. :)! I feel it helped :)
I wore the medela post partum belt (from day 1 on) and it just made me feel so much better. I felt it was better to compress and hold in in and up rather then let it hang. I asked every mom I saw at the beach who had a nice stomach down here and the all said they wore belts.
The pictures go 1 week prior to birth
6weeks
Etd.. removed some pictures since Danielle saw them already. Image Attachment(s):

Pretty much, I took it off to sleep and since I had Jack in late May sometimes it didn't go with my clothes so I would take it off but most times I left it on and tight because it felt better. I needed Dh most times to put it on for me because I closed it in the back and he could get it tighter then I could and then I tucked the lower part into my pants. I also just tried to **** it in and hold my back straight any chance that I had which I think helped as well.

Last - at what point did you start wearing it? In the hospital or once you got home?

Re: Stefanie...
See - I asked my Dr about this and he said it's counter productive so I didn't wear it. And I spent $60 on a good surgical one. He said that girdles give you too much support which means you are actually using your abdominals less so you won't tone them as quickly.
But judging by what you ladies are saying, I'm thinking he's wrong.

Well, definitely not as well as Laurie!! She looks amazing at 6 weeks pp. But my DH told me at around 2 week pp my abs already felt stronger. He hugged me one day and said "Oh...I forgot you had ab muscles!"
The thing is I lost about 30 lbs by 2 weeks pp and then plateaued. I still have more to lose. I don't think I can get my belly to it's flattest until I lose some more weight.
Keep in mind, I also had a c-section and wasn't given the okay to start working out until exactly 4 weeks ago.
To answer your question, finally, let me put it this way, after reading this I am considering starting to wear a girdle because pilates for the past 4 weeks isn't getting me anywhere fast enough for me.
As far as when to start wearing the girdle, the nurse at the hospital told me after 4 days (with the c/s - for natural you can probably start on day 1, I had to get the staples out first). I wore it for about 2 days before I saw my Dr and he told me it doesn't really help. When I stopped wearing it, I definitely noticed that I was using my ab muscles alot more.
But you were so flat for so long during your PG... I bet you are going to bounce back pretty quick just like Laurie!

Re: Stefanie...
I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner...I got my girdle at Macy's for $20. It was underware with the panel attached to the top. My ob/gyn recommended that I wear one...as well as my mother. Now 3 months afterwards this is the end result. Plus, I go to the gym regularly.
(you can also see my c-section scar in one of them)

Re: Stefanie...
I think it really depends on your family history what did your mom look like PP 3 months?? I also got the belt and the panel underwear, reccommended by the PT and OB and even my grandmother.. and at three months PP I DID NOT look as awesome as Steph does.. I wish, but in all reality, my body is just not genetically programmed that way. Sorry, but JMHO that not everyone should model your great midsection as a reasonable goal..
(ETA: I am not trying to offend anyone by this, please do not take it that way..)

Note. My mom is 4'11 and was 190lbs 3 months PP with me 26 years ago. My mom is still at that weight and my father is close to 300 and 5'10" ... my belt and walking made a huge difference IMO. But also I don't know about Stef but I walked alot and did occasional pilates while pregnant and I think that helped as well. I also think part of my reason I've been busting my butt working out at home on tapes or in step class 1x a week (since 6 weeks) is I had a MIL and Aunts in law who enjoyed watching me gain over 60lbs while pregnant and loved telling my husband I would never be the way I was before no matter what I did (with a large smile on their face)
I wish everyone the best of luck in their weight loss. Speaking from my own experience Jack being born in late May was a Godsend because I was able to get out of my house in nice spring weather and start walking with the Graco Monster Stroller my first week.
It's a struggle but I think it is possible to get back to somewhat of what you had before with time and support!
My mother is heavy because after she had my brother she moved to LI (like the week she had him from Queens) and had no friends, was a brandnew SAHM and was used to working in the city with my Dad and my brother was born in late November so she shut herself in the house with the baby and she actually tells me she lost weight when she was pregnant with me but gained it all back after she had me. I know of so many women this has happened too and I had it programmed in the back of my head that I would do my best not to follow her footsteps.

Re: Stefanie...
Thanks...I'm not offended...infact....I'm surprised that I even look like this because I didn't even touch the gym during my pregnancy. Believe me...this is NOT what I looked like before I was preggo. My arse is twice the size is was...so yeah I have to still get my lower parts back into shape...
