My Birth story:
My water broke at 10:45am as you all know...I took a shower, waited for my husband to arrive home and went to the OB at 12:00pm. They confirmed my water breaking and sent me to the hospital for Pitocin and induction of the labor. I arrived at St. Charles, checked in and was in the L&D receiving Pitocin by 2pm. I progressed VERY slowly at that point. I took Demerol for pain control until 8:15ish when I was 4 cm dialated. They asked if I wanted Epidural, and even though I wasn't feeling too much pain I knew it would get worse so I told them Yes. By 10pm I was 10 cm dialated and ready to push. I pushed for 3 hours because I couldn't feel anything down below. They had to turn down my epidural drip so that I could feel the need to push and I never really felt the pressure...I could just tell that something was down there... and then at 1:02am Salvatore Robert popped out! I didnt' feel a thing! My husband, the nurse and I were joking during the pushing that it was nothing like the movies! The Dr. didn't perform an episiotomy because the nurse was massaging the area during the whole thing...BUT in the end I tore a little and did require stitches. I'm healing nicely now though. It was a bit uncomfortable at first.
So beginning to end I had a 14 hour labor & delivery. Not too bad!!
Motherhood is great...a little overwhelming because I've never really been around newborns and I'm not sure of everything quite yet, but I'll soon get the hang of it!

I'm glad to hear a positive story about labor and delivery! The only part that threw me off was the "nurse massaging" that area to avoid/reduce the need for an episiotomy. I didn't know anything about this

I was never around newborns either but you will definitely get the hang of it. It's your son and honestly most of it will come naturally to you.
